Yellow | the New Right to Work States & YRCW ?

if your BA sez "don't do that, its a bad idea", its not fighting back, its stupidity, because he can probably go over the way the scenario will play out because someone did it before. loud and ornery is not smart. right now we need smart.
how many time you going to hear "ya they can do that " even when you know they cant ?

depends on the local, and the BA, and the precedent's set by previous teamsters. iirc, if everyone lays down on something for a period of time, and no one contests it, it can be considered lost, depending on the contract language.

I concur. Too many bemoan the conditions. And do so without offering any REAL solutions. Some even express the hypocritical position that people who don't want to pay dues should not work for Union employers. While in the next breath, threaten to stop paying dues! They hate YRCW and the Teamsters. The problems we face are caused by anti-labor legislation and politicians. Until labor union members quit voting for politicians who do not protect labors best interests, the decline of unions will continue.
I agree with your first part,, completely DISagree with your last. ... I don't see what you're talking about. I see a copout, blaming politicians... In fact, I see Too Much government involvement..

When it comes to this subject I see most of you guys as 'emotional Romulins', itching for a fight. I'm more of a Mr Spock non-emotional Vulcan. Provide a great product and people flock to join. Provide a bad product and people flee. Looking at the IBT the past decade: prior poor planning produced ****-poor results.....

An A-1 archetype, administering alliteration!!

Both valid statements. What do we do about it? Non-Union Employees don't have any reason to care about Pro Labor Candidates. Young Men and Women that grew up in non-union households, where the word Union or Unionism was considered Socialism, don't know a good from a bad product.

Sugarfoot, the "I've got mine" attitude will need to be overcome. The conservative rhetoric, that those who struggle to make ends meet in our society are themselves to blame, must be countered with the facts. The corporate greed and economic policies that promote "out sourcing" MUST be addressed through legislation. The fallacy that less government will some how overcome human greed is just that, FALLACY. The undermining of labor unions through "Right to Work" is only one example of the conservative agenda. The rise of the American middle class was a direct result of labor unions, PROMOTED by national policies that were favorable to the growth of unions. The success of unions in raising the standard of living for millions is one of the leading causes of the decline. And now the indifference of too many Americans, to the relevance of unions. is speeding the decline!

Put together s great product and people will flock to it. Put out a poor one and they leave. Economics 101. Government can't overcome that..

Broad generalizations based on anecdotal examples are the reason for much of the misunderstanding in the world today. We as Teamsters are NOT exempt from that fact!

The Teamsters Union sadly has been it's own worst enemy too many times and the public perception has suffered. Do you remember when all this was going on? This is just in one area. We have an image problem for sure.

Boy, those were the days ! Mikey Sciarra was the Steward on the Ward job in Totowa, Stanley Jaronko was the Steward at Roadway in Kearny. I had Joe Sheridan as my BA once. Josephine signed and handed me my Union Card.

Point taken. True, but, I havn't read any posts on the other LTL Forums that make me want to run over to them either. But I'm not an newbie.
Newbies used to see nmfa pay at 36 cents while nons were 18. Nmfa had a solid pension and generous vacations. We're all even now, and nons move up the ladder easier without all the guff of oldsters lamenting The Hoffa Days.

I've been a Teamster half my career and have benefitted much. But newbies want nothing to do with our failing system. In 15 years there'll be no private unions. People have choices now. Its not going back to dinosaur days..

I worked alongside Stanley's brother Hank. You would never know they were brothers - one a loudmouth buffoon and the other the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. I don't think I have to explain which is which.

You make valid points. but, wouldn't you say the newbie at the nons, has benefited from the Union without even realizing it in terms of wage increases, 401k's, paid vacations and bidding rights, etc. Every time we tried to organize "Big O", Federal Express, Fed-Ex Freight and Conway, they all got raises and work rules language to their benefit. I've had their Employees thank me on the CB.
In your opinion, what will take place on those jobs, should we become Dinosaurs and fall into the pit ?
