I guess you have not kept up with pensions lately. The only co paying top rate into the fund is ABF and Ups. Are you aware that when the Ups contract is up, they want to buy out of the New England fund, just as they did in the Central States, a few years back. And the inside info on this is the union is going to welcome the payoff. It will be enough to cover the fund for 10 or so years. Any new employee of ups will come under their plan such as ups freight. The days of the big pensions are over. It was great in its day, but union are now pushing 401's etc. Look at what the union is organizing today, crossing guards and city workers, all with just representation only, no pension or medical.You will do no better there than at fedex. Trust me , Been there. Having worked for many a union carrier, I have never seen a non union carrier work with close to the same work rules. At least in my barn they do. So be careful what you wish for.
