I do. I ain’t givin up my squawkbox because some millenial idiot says “we have apps for that now”.Valid & important topic. Policy vs legal vs safety. Would love to see a study on the effect of road drivers NOT having communications, and it's effect on fatigue. Especially after being used to talking (hands free) most of the night/day.
I don't see any need for a city driver to be riding around on the phone. But a road driver? Perhaps the case can be made.
Does anyone still use a CB? If so, is there much chatter still out there?
You need permission to do that or something? After mass coaching sessions for going around traffic, it gets there when I gets there.
We had a person in a position of authority with a Napoleonic personality. You need permission to do that or something?
What kinda :::: is that?
Come on isn't that why we are truck drivers. Certainly isn't cuz we opened too many books...lolI'd explain it by telling them to "open a book", but that would be even more confusing.

How long have you been a road driver? That's unreal, and unnecessarily short sighted.. My terminal manager told me when I went into linehaul:
"Get it there as fast as safely, and legally possible."
and supplemented it with saying that FedEx would rather pay an extra 20 miles to get it there faster as opposed to sitting in traffic, especially when the trailer contains guaranteed freight.

There have been letters written in the past to drivers for going off route without authorization.
They have backed off on this, but I have a good friend that detoured around an accident that would otherwise have been a multi hour delay. He called CLC when it was safe to do so and informed them of the detour. A corrective action letter was waiting for him on arrival. Not long enough apparently. Had no idea they existed.

No BS.
Because driver facing cameras are illegal in Canada. And yes, cbp wants them covered before entering the customs area. The carriers are making BS excuses for their camera programs.
Not one of TFI's carriers, to my knowledge, uses cameras of any kind. This includes the LTL guys at TST Overland Express, Canadian Freightways and Vitran. The courier guys at Canpar and Loomis Express. As well as the vast truckload operations. I don't have a camera in my truck and Highland has never expressed interest in them.
Also, US Customs and Border Protection do not like these cameras and they must be covered by law for security reasons before you approach a CBP facility.

So FedEx pays hub miles for linehaul? That's unreal, and unnecessarily short sighted.. My terminal manager told me when I went into linehaul:

What’s the “nuclear option”?I seem to recall that policy being changed to allow driver for discretion. No call needed prior to. Not only that, a call after the fact can result in pay for the additional mileage.
This was changed (2015?) when the "nuclear option" was being considered... Where have yall been?
It was, but the damage is done. This must have been during the days of the war of Management Aggression before 2015.
So FedEx pays hub miles for linehaul?
That might explain the “off route” crapola.
What’s the “nuclear option”?
