I put in an application as a Linehaul driver with them at a terminal in Dallas and they called me literally the next day, set the interview up for that next following day, and offered me the job on the spot after a 10 minute interview. Ended up turning it down, but it didn’t take very long at all.I'm an employee at YRC (dock- CHI) & have been trying to get hired at Estes for sometime. I've been with YRC since 2006 while in the industry since 2005. I don't know why, but I have not had any luck at even getting an interview. Has it anything to do with being a union member? It's been awhile since I last applied, but is there any advice? Thank you! A currently disgruntled Teamster.

Quite the contrary, I was in the interview process with ABF at the same time and picked the better carrier in terms of being a linehaul driver.U dun goofed.
Extraboard is a $100k a year job at Estes running in that region out of a terminal like Dallas.
Estes hasn't had a layoff in forever. ABF lays off constantly. Had a buddy got put on layoff last year and he was out so long waiting he just went ahead and found another job. Plus at a union job as a new guy your the scrub who will get bumped by every senior guy and get all the crap work.Quite the contrary, I was in the interview process with ABF at the same time and picked the better carrier in terms of being a linehaul driver.
Estes May pay slightly better in terms of mileage pay, but that’s literally the only advantage over ABF.
Good thing I’m a smoker. Nicotine doesn’t bother me.Enjoy slip seating in a nicotine coated tractor and being on call 7 days a week for a while. We all have to pick our poison.
For some strange reason trucking companies love smokers , if you dont smoke they think your a jerkEnjoy slip seating in a nicotine coated tractor and being on call 7 days a week for a while. We all have to pick our poison.
I never heard of either doing a hair test. You're saying ABF does that now, not Estes...correct? I have no problem with a urine test but I wouldn't work for anyone who either puts a camera on my dashboard pointed right at the driver's seat or pulls hair out of my head. If a couple decades of experience and a spotless record isn't enough to keep their minds at ease, screw em.No joke . Look up hair follicle drug test . Said they would shave the back of my head or I needed shave legs to get a big ball of hair. I chose the legs as it won't be seen by most till it grows back . I looked it up after I got home and websites say 120 hairs or more . I went in thinking it would just be maybe five. So I guess all abf drivers go through it .

Well this might not make you happy. It is an eventual goal of the FMSCA/DOT to require all drivers to undergo hair follicle drug testing. It's been brought up a lot as something they want to do.I never heard of either doing a hair test. You're saying ABF does that now, not Estes...correct? The last I read, the DOT actually lowered the percentage of drivers that a company is required to drug test. Not sure when that took place but I believe it since I see my employer test a lot less than say 20 years ago. I've yet to hear anything about the DOT pushing for 100% hair follicle testing but I wouldn't doubt what you're saying. If anything, a lot of employers where I live have stopped testing people for THC (not trucking of course). If they proceed with the MORE act and remove cannabis from the list of controlled substances, you have to wonder if they'll start testing for THC the way they test for alcohol. A simple breathalyzer or saliva test which only goes back 5 or 6 hours. I'll **** in a cup every morning for them as long as they let me clock in first. After all, It ends up getting flushed down a toilet. Start shaving hair off my body to see what I do when I'm not on duty and I'm out.Well this might not make you happy. As of right now Estes does not, as fair as I know. In any case I have taken these hair follicle tests for other companies and it doesnt have to be hair from your head. They can get hair from anywhere on your body. They took hair from my leg. Grew back quick. No big deal.
It's getting to the point where any job paying decent money requires you to jump through these hoops, trucking or not.
I always wanted to know if new hires first test counts towards the quota and when we go for a test we should be off with pay until the results are ready i see when a driver failed they are picked up on the road although before the test and while the results were being prepared the driver was the best number one person and now derated to bum because of a tkoThe last I read, the DOT actually lowered the percentage of drivers that a company is required to drug test. You said it's the DOT's goal to require hair testing for all drivers. Where can I read about this?
