ODFL | My yard isn't happy with the new OT

They’ll push for better productivity and watch for areas of improvement.

This is definitely needed in some areas. However with that said, where will OD get the equipment for another possible thousand drivers with the supposed parts and computer chip shortage. Will the linehaul crew accept they may have to slip seat with a city driver who drives an 13-18 model year because that is what is available
They’ve already done the slip seat at our terminal. I don’t agree with it, cuz my city driver is a newbie from the dock. Curbed tires now, leaving the interior a mess, but the biggest pet peeve is not having my tractor back when I start.

Been dealing with that for a while now at my yard. About two months ago they decided to change up the truck list, I went from assigned truck to shared truck with P&D guy and I'm yet to drive "our" truck. I show up and my truck is not there so I end up driving whatever is available which means different truck every time

Everyone hourly in my yard is not very happy about the OT getting cut to 50. We all asked about it, and we're told get ready to work 45 to 49.5 hours a week. There not going to allow OT just like the way it's been forever. We all normally work about 60, and never complained! Yeah $1.10 was a good raise, but now we'll make less money regardless because of less hours. We definitely got screwed. But as far as linehaul goes- good for you guys. You definitely made out this raise.
Reddaway pays OT after 8.

the next General rate increase takes effect in January 2022, just saying I think it will be a hefty one to increase capacity. Remember they want to be at 20% empty capacity throughout their network at all times

You have 7 single use line trucks at your terminal
You’re route will be split 3 ways after they hire them 1,000 drivers
you are right this happen in Washington where ot is after 40. Corp wantin 45 hr avg,,

That’s the good thing about being in a end of the line hole in the wall terminal. Can’t hire drivers away from other carriers they just won’t jump ship here. Of the 6 guys above me 3 of those are about to retire and the other 3 hate the route. With only 10 city drivers sometimes I wonder if they even notice. 30 door facility with more trap doors than load doors. Plus 10-15 sealed trailers on the fence. Some are in the process of being broke some not. Never seen anything like it yet it never changes. Plus there’s a dock full of freight every single day. 2 door to 30 door is all the way around the dock daily.

That’s every yard right now, when this economy rebalances and corporate makes their moves in January it will be a totally different story, peaks and valleys my friend, I’ve seen it all before, I’ve worked at end of line centers for OD with 15 doors and hundreds of miles to cover, they will incentivize newbie CDL holders to come aboard, that’s why OD Human Resources and recruiters are in dang near every trade school across the country the past 18 months.

I’m good with 50 hours a week myself. Extra income is always nice but more time at home is nice also.

You’re absolutely right my friend I told people at my location years ago base your bills on 40 hours a week bank rest of the money for hard times and new toys do you think the young ones were listen no, it’s going to be a learning curve Perhaps new drivers will look at this and learn from it

Abt, Saia, Pyle, and Pitt all pay ot, and drivers are gettin as much ot as they want. OD makes a ton of money, they can certainly afford to let you guys work as much as you want
I don’t know about pyle with overtime but at Abf as much overtime as you want double time on Sunday. If the work at OD is there, 50 hours will mean nothing or thinking that dispatch will get you out before 50 will never happen….

I’ve been trying to tell the younger drivers for years the same thing, along with maximizing your 401k benefit, some listen most don’t, being invested in OD stock for the past 20 years I don’t care if I only get 30 hours a week, at this point a good chunk just goes to investments anyways

They’ll push for better productivity and watch for areas of improvement. They aren’t rolling out the new OT pay after 50 until the slow season for a reason. The CEO said they plan on hiring 1000 more employees by the end of the year. I guarantee it’s so they can hopefully be staffed well enough to combat the high demand of customers and keep overhead cost under control. They’ll spread the hours to keep OT to a minimum. Part time employees don’t cost anything in terms of benefits, just hourly pay.

Seen it first hand with other LTL companies I’ve worked for. Been with OD 7 years now and it’s definitely the top LTL to work for. Hopefully they don’t start to micromanage hourly employees. They’re growing so fast that they will have to start exploring different options to keep they’re OR as good as it’s been.
Welcome to corporate America, every company is using these computer to micro manage us. OD hiring 1,000 drivers good luck with that….

good advice

Yea but if what they say is true about OD. Your income is regulated at OD for PnD. I rather do unlimited OT at reddaway and be able to control my income.
I totally get what your saying I work for a carrier that pays ot after 8 as well and it is nice to be able to get the overtime but the hourly rate reddaway pays compared to od you would still get less working 60 hours at reddaway compared to working 60 hours at od
