Starting to see them more and more has anyone else noticed ?

Agreed, running guys with empties just for the sake of giving them a run will cost all of us in the long run!!Probably because freight isn’t coming the opposite way?
Why pay folks to run empties when you can pay someone to take the load to the destination and after they get there say “bye”.
Freight rates have dropped so it’s now cheaper again to use purchase rather than pay their own drivers . Last year when freight rates were up , they added guys around the system because it was cheaper , now it’s time to starve them out . Remember, it’s all about numbers .Starting to see them more and more has anyone else noticed ?
Unless it was your run PT was running....Probably because freight isn’t coming the opposite way?

It’s happened to me before...I just dovetail in on the extra board by my seniority and bump the junior guys that much farther down the board!!Unless it was your run PT was running....

Point is somebody is not going to work...It’s happened to me before...I just dovetail in on the extra board by my seniority and bump the junior guys that much farther down the board!!
You have no idea. Haha.Yea been seeing a lot of them coming and going at KCY, even FXG contractors pulling Ground vans or Freight sets. At least 15-20 PTs per night. A lot of it is going west to DEN, NSL, SAC, SEA, POR which sort of makes sense, except we already have relay yards in Nebraska and Wyoming for getting that stuff across with Freight drivers. They just don’t want to add drivers out there for some reason. Then there’s also the PTs going to end of line SCs like Omaha and North Platte. Meanwhile we have drivers stuck working the dock all night, every night, without a chance in hell of getting a run for at least a few years. And they wonder why we can’t keep new guys...
I was being facetious but someone isn’t going to work anyways, we’ll sit on freight instead of moving empties...empties don’t pay the bills!!Point is somebody is not going to work...
Trailer’s have to move empty or full, have to keep the trailer pool even throughout the system....I was being facetious but someone isn’t going to work anyways, we’ll sit on freight instead of moving empties...empties don’t pay the bills!!
Correct but again, we’ll sit on freight or they’ll run the freight out of route before we run empties...empties don’t pay the bills!!Trailer’s have to move empty or full, have to keep the trailer pool even throughout the system....
Seems like a good way to loose customer’s by holding freight. It would be cheaper to run empties then redirecting freight....Correct but again, we’ll sit on freight or they’ll run the freight out of route before we run empties...empties don’t pay the bills!!
How do you figure?? Redirecting freight still generates revenue, empties cost money no matter how you move them.Seems like a good way to loose customer’s by holding freight. It would be cheaper to run empties then redirecting freight....
If you want to ignore what I said about the majority of the PTs going and coming from the west and talk about OMA and NPL, then sure. In years past they had no problems adding runs to OMA and adding to DEN due to extra NPL freight. But the topic of this thread was asking if it seems like there are more PTs now and the answer is yes there are. It is a fact that FedEx is using them more, I assume because they are cheaper right now and they don’t mind putting drivers on the dock to make up for not being able to find quality dock workers. You have no idea. Haha.
Do you know how much freight goes into KCY from OMA? And how much freight KCY sends to OMA? Big imbalance!
What PT goes to NPL? A small barn with maybe 10 doors.
You must be an KC metro shuttle driver not getting runs??
You can have the last word Red, I forgot who I was replying to....How do you figure?? Redirecting freight still generates revenue, empties cost money no matter how you move them.
