I get asked a lot weather or not FDXF is a good place to work by guys and gals who either currently drive for other companies, or want to start a driving career so i figured I’d make this thread with the hopes they will find this or maybe just get the facts out there after being with them just shy of 26 years. This will not be a bash FDXF only deal as there are some good but it WILL be factual. This is not just my opinion but these are what you will encounter if in fact you chose to seek employment here.

PRO’s
-For the most part you will be home every night with the exception of when your freight is delayed longer than 3 hours then you might be spending the night or day in a hotel .

-You get treated pretty good depending on what terminal you work out of. Favoritism does play a role but that’ll be the same wherever you go.

-You do get compensated for everything. Delay, fuel, drops & hooks

CONS

-We have the absolute WORST healthcare available in the industry. It’s confusing, expensive, and covers hardly anything. The deductibles are astronomical especially if you have a family. Definitely take advantage of the HSA deal . We have been expressing our disgust with this but it’s clear they are just going to keep us under this plan.

-The pay is good compared to the OTR companies but the lowest in the bigger LTL space now that Yellow is gone.

-Equipment is decent but trucks are very gutless and slow and will leave you stuck in the left lane trying to get around traffic. We’ve also expressed concern about this to our leadership but again, in one ear and out the other.

-Moral is the lowest I’ve ever seen it here. We have a lot of changes going on here now with the combining FedEx together and a lot of my co workers feel they have no future here due to the uncertainty of everything and they do not pass along any info on the changes that are going on. I’m currently looking at retirement but for the younger group of people i hope you all make a wise decision. Coming from Watkins to this current time within this company it is sad where we are, but it is what it is. It is a large corporation and it shows.

My opinion, look at OD or Estes first. From what I’ve been told they are much better laid back and run very well. Plus OD offers free healthcare after 10 years from what I’ve been told.

I hope this helps some guys and gals out there.

Old Dominion s insurance is worse than ours. I think you're confusing them with Saia.

Our equipment isn't bad. I've done a few prehire test drives that made me thankful for FedEx equipment.

Moral is pretty low. Raise was a bust, our bonus got left behind when the OM took off and our insurance is disappointing for a company the size of FedEx.

At Estes, you'll be sitting for free until your trailer is ready. I have a friend that left FedEx and went there. He's pretty happy, but I'd get a call every night saying he was sitting for 2 or 3 hours waiting on his trailer. Old Dominion pays delay after an hour. They also did economic terminations when things got slow. Walk in one day to be told you're terminated and your benefits cease at 1159 PM.

I'd take FedEx over either one. I'd also take FedEx over Saia. I don't want a camera in my face the whole time I'm driving.

My only warning with people coming here is that being on the bottom sucks and depending on the building it might take some time to get something decent. Prepare for lots of dock work and learn how the politics here work. Once you learn how to push back on purple shirts, they'll never bother you.

As for favoritism, that does exist. I'd advise sending an email to the driver advisor and employee relations about it. You want a paper trail so that you can prove your case when you have to. They'll also stop playing that game with you because they'll know you're going above their head on that and documenting everything.

Trade has went downhill. I turn all young people away if I can. City is micromanaged like crazy, and IMO I don't see a future for a company linehaul driver here in 5-10 years.

Can't complain it's what we tolerate. So it's what they give us..
Several places on the internet and you tube are talking about the transportation industry as a whole is heading down hill. Possibly the push for self driving trucks not sure though, but something is definitely got moral down in most trucking jobs. Its not one or two but all over. A lot of truckload carriers pay per mile is a joke. You would be better off at a factory or mill or warehouse. At least you would be home daily for the same amount of weekly pay just about it.

It is no longer a viable career path.
Aside from some VERY fringe employeers, the pay and benefits are dismal, and at best, mediocre.
It's taxing on your body, and overall health.
Slim chance of starting a career today, and retiring from it.
Companies like Fx,,, Fred and Raj both unapologetically stating that they envision a future of driverless trucks. Tech will replace you.

I wouldn't recommend it to an experienced driver, but I would to somebody with no experience. The driver development program is a great program and you can't beat getting paid over 20/hr to get one on one training to get your CDL.
You're making a lot of assumptions.

There is ZERO indication that Fx, or the LtL world is wanting to grow.
Also, we're on the cusp of a recession. At Fx specifically, it's a crap shoot as to what they have planned for Freight. You really want to walk on to a job with that much uncertainty?

All of that is not factoring in advancements in tech that will almost certainly eliminate long haul jobs within a decade.

So, apply for roof thatching instead? Maybe a Fletcher? Smith? Weaver? Miller?

This is depressing, I’m switching my surname to “Trucker” after achieving complete obsolescence…

I didn't make any assumptions. I said the driver development program is a great program because it is. Getting your CDL through FedEx doesn't mean you have to stay there forever.

You're making assumptions thinking long haul jobs will be eliminated in a decade. That infrastructure doesn't exist and the technology isn't reliable.

It really is hard on the body. Just the sitting alone in a truck all day kills your back.

Us truckers are a dying breed. Just like all the hard workers before us of any trade we are being weeded out. To many have gave in and gave up in this country and now we are on the decline to a socialist program where we all will be broke but the govt will give us just enough to sustain. Somewhere somehow some way most got brainwashed and thought this new way is the way of the future when in reality it was a way of destruction of just about everything we believe in. No more agreeing to dis agree but its my way or the highway attitude and the country is so split and divided it sadden me. I get pissed at myself about why i and everybody like me became cowards instead of fighting for to make a difference. Our forefathers never intended the country to be this way. People used to have grit and work to provide for their families. Now most are lazy and just dont care and its affecting nearly every business there is. Corporate greed hasnt helped anything either. The rich get richer and the middle class is being destroyed. The haves and the have nots is whats on the horizon. Every kingdom in the past has fallen so why would be any different.
