ok guys
this is the skinny when you really read that traffic world article
what the author is doing is sheer spec on his part
the clue is when he refers to a possible buy of abf by ups is the logistics of such a purchase
for that buy to be benificial abf and upsf would have to be consolidated
in order for that to occur when and if upsf has a contract two things would have to occur
1- abf would have to leave the nmfa and ratify a transition to a upsf agreement
2 a upsf freight agreement would have to be in place
in addition the upsf freight agreement would have to be equal to or exceed the nmfa for that to occur
Nowhere in this article did he say consolidation of the two entities, he say's
" this move would provide UPSF with a seperate long haul division(ABF) and regional (OVERNITE)"
" The combined revanue would equal 3.5 Billion."
I am not saying this may not eventually happen. They would be stupid to do so.
UPS believes in customer service, they are not as Operations aggressive as "O" was , ( and of coarse I cannot comment on ABF) 20-30 stops on one truck was nothing to "O" and for the most part expected it done. Where UPS on the other hand is using 3 drivers for the same workload to make sure all is delivered and pickups is made as well.
If a decision had to be made "O" did not care about the pickup's, they wanted the freight delivered instead .Unless of coarse you were at your pickup while delivering.
