XPO | The boxboss question and answer thread

Downhill with full load it's 70 freewheelin' :woot: then up the next hill at 55!! :1036316054: Make ya feel like ya in a roller coaster?
These trucks do round 70 going down hill. That is where they are getting them. They are govern, but, going downhill we kinda hit 70 every once in awhile.

I think LawOfOne is a vast secret conspiracy, black helicopters are over my house, tin-foil on his head wearing, Con-Way's tapping my phone, certifiable wacko; him and all his cryptic mystery shrouded innuendos.

But hey, more power to him, if that's how he wants to live....so be it.
He also probably thinks the the Freemasons & Illuminati are trying to take over the world too, but he's certainly welcome to think any way he wants. And I'm sure when the conspiracy is successful, a black van will whisk him away, along with all traces of his life in society.
Just ask him.

I've always thought it looked like the creepy dude is eating ribs. But I have always been curious, and is it just me, or does anyoneelse think that 'Creepy Eating Guy' looks like Babe Ruth?

We don't have assigned tractors (for any aspect of the operation), but the senior guys get the newest trucks that are available, as long as it doesn't mean a lot of drop/hook. Most guys don't complain.

I've always thought BoxBoss seemed like a smart, thoughtful fellow. He gives reasonable answers as far as I can tell, and seems as honest as this forum will allow him.

Odd, because most SCMs have a rep similar to that of a hyena.

SOMEONE---please tell us what Creepy Guy is eating!?!?!?!

The creepy guy is eating "Pension" ka-bobs.
Must be tasty cause he's eaten it up pretty good.

Not to interrupt the important stuff you all are addressing here but here are some questions of concern; What were the total number of service failures this week? Not just inter- region but nationwide. Why is our freight shipped on Covenant, Trucks, Werner, etc. when CFI trucks are setting? Why are "pure" pups loaded, trucked 220 miles up the road only to be stripped and loaded on subcontract 53 footers to travel another 400 miles? How can freight be expected to be delivered on time when 53 footers only show up at 13:30 and 15:00? With ICP being questioned will there be "incentives" for management to continue getting bonuses on a per terminal basis even if ICP disappears? You state the top brass will not take anymore bonus than any other employee, you neglected to include stock options and phantom stocks. You seem to becoming more "company" in the opinions expressed here on the boards. Are you here with GO's blessings or here on your own? Some people change identities and morph into someone or something else to meet a need or situation, how 'bout you? Press on

Let's see if I can answer all your questions:

CFI (Con-way Truckload) is a separate division of our company, does haul loads for us, but also has a significant customer base of it's own. The other carriers have to bid by lane, and Con-way is very prudent about who is awarded which lane based on price and their ability to perform on time deliveries. Fail to perform, they are taken off the run...
I have a few late arrivals at my place, most due to weather issues across the country, others due to mechanical malfunctions.
I will try to get access to failures systemwide tomorrow, but that is generally available to the Director of Quality on up...I can access to the area level, but not the system..

Your guess is as good as mine as to incentive programs going forward. I have always been in favor of individual service center performance bonuses for EVERYONE, this way everyone shares in the successes and the failures. Those teams that do not perform well, see ya next year..
I thought this year would be the last for ICP personally, but there has been no mention of changing the program to this point.

Stock Options are generally a part of all executive compensation packages nationwide in a publicly traded company. Obviously gives an executive more incentive to perform well, as I think you would agree...

I don't think I've changed much in the 5 months on the boards, I made it very clear my reasons for being here, to hopefully help answer employees questions and concerns, and I like to believe I have made a difference, to what degree is up to everyone else to decide. Of course my opinions are going to be "company-slanted", mainly because as an SCM, I have an obligation and responsibility to protect the best interests of my company, and that is a personal choice. But it hasn't kept me from stating when I am unhappy about certain things and policies and such. I have also developed some really good relationships with some here, and alot of folks who don't even work for CNW, and I enjoy the Sports thread every week with some others, so it has been beneficial to me as well...

I can't say if I am here with G.O.'s blessing, because quite frankly, nobody has said anything to me one way or another since the day I got here...I think there is this perception that "the Black Helicopter" exists and all that, and maybe there have been some previous examples prior to my arrival here, but nothing has been directed at me in a positive or negative vein...

So, no morphing up to now, I am still the same as when I came aboard..

CFI, Conway Truckload, Herbs' Boys, or whatever it's called today flies under the Menlo banner. With auto companies slowing down, supply shipments will also. Is not CFIs' claim to fame auto parts from Mexico? Wouldn't it make more sense to operate our equiptment on dedicated runs than "gypsying" around the country? Press on

I don't know if it's their claim to fame, but I know it is part of their portfolio....If it were up to me, all of Con-way's purchase would be with Truckload, but it's not up to me..

I thought 62 was the govern systemwide...my guys would kill for a 67...
:hide: Box, 67 mph is down hill with a load, your trucks will do that. A lot of things are not systemwide, but soon will be. I have some reservations about the direction our Company is heading, but I am not going anywhere, we, together will see the end result.
If you are ever offered a chance for advancement to the Midwest, shiver, shiver, I for one hope you accept it.
We need some managers like you.
Keep up the good work, and continue on the boards, we DO appreciate your knowledge and wisdom.
MAN, that is a far cry from you and I being censured a couple of months ago! I guess that it shows that when some people get into a rift, and get called to the carpet, like we did, common ground CAN be found.
We are in this thing together, albeit 2,000 miles apart, and we will do our best. :smilie_132:

Thanks for the comments, I do appreciate it...I too, have concerns, but mainly not about the company...I think they have a good vision for the future, just very buried in a bad time in our nation's history, as is everyone else...If we were the only ones with problems, I would be worried, but I believe we may be the most financially stable heading into this deep recession...UPS and FedEx have big bucks behind them, but we are pretty smart overall...I am pretty pleased overall with the people I get to go through this with, and I trust them..

boxman.....how is that senior driver doing now that he is back.....are there anymore problems at your barn with racial jokes?

I am sorry that you feel that way. Conspiracy, I do not think so. If you feel up to it check out case CIV-434340 in the county of San Mateo, Superior Court of the State of California. That was something that was done three years ago to help this company do the right thing at the time. Long before the problems that face the company at this time. As for the way that things are going now, well all that can be said about that is myself and other people can communicate, but we have to do it in a way that does not hurt the cases that we are involved in. So alot of the things that are said sound like innuendos, sorry but that is the way things have to be untill it becomes public knowledge, such as the case above. I do care about the company and sorry that you think the way you do. Also I do care about the H bomb that is underwater just off of Tidy Island, Georgia, that has been there for 50 years, after a plane accident in the war games that were played at that time, oh wait a minute, that might be the tin foil that is rubbing against my head. As for BoxBoss, he is giving you the best answer that he can at this time.

Are you asking me..??? I am not in Vegas, I am in the surf...and the last time I checked in Vegas, alot of sand, true, but no surf...and don't count those wave pools at the hotels either...

not no more

I can understand your feelings, and wish I could help...we are certainly in tough times, with tough decisions being made all the time, and probably more yet to come...All I can hope is that the moves are being made with securing our futures in mind...We will have a new President in the white house soon, and the lame duck, not interested in working to help, is going to have to step aside...I made it clear I was no fan of the man going into office, but at least he wants to get moving, and maybe that's what we need to jump start this mess and get us all feeling better about things and growing again...God knows we all could use a dose of feel good right about now...

Makers Mark on the rocks anyone? How about that for a dose of "feel good"? I enjoy a fine bourbon on the rocks while I wait for my precious bill to be passed into law!! Come on now, I was careful as to how I worded it. TE out....
