FedEx Freight | Union?

The gov and insurance take enough out of my paycheck. I don't need to give to the union.

Clearly you don't understand the benefits you receive from the union. Sir sounds like you should got to the next meeting and get informed. Also your union dues are tax deductible.

If you think about it you can deduct union does without actually belonging to a union. Not saying I ever did this when I was working, that would be cheating on your taxes. TP

What a crock. How many miles of track does fxf own? And was AF covered under that act?

Both Viking and AF worked under NLR as does most trucking companies. Fedex doesn't own any trains "yet," but they do own lots of airplanes. The RLA regulates both the railroad and airline industries. Lets not forget who owns FXF

Just like TP said, Doofus.
Because FedEx started out as an air freight carrier, they are covered by the RLA.
Airlines have been included in the RLA since 1936.
A bill passed in Congress in 2009 that would have put only the pilots and airplane mechanics under the RLA and all other FedEx employees under the NRLA. Uncle Fred at that time was in the process of ordering a bunch of Boeing 777 aircraft and went before the Senate and told them if they passed the bill he would take his toys and go home, i.e., that would cancel his order with Boeing.
So, in order to stimulate the economy in Seattle, Wa, the Senate threw the FedEx employees under the bus and left us under the auspices of the RLA.

Ive always heard hat once you reach 50 or so fedex tries to push you out. I dont know how true it is...Ive seen older national/watkins drivers systematically eliminated. I think..but dont really know..that a union would probably prevent this kind of discrimination. If you are capable of doing the job I feel you shouldnt have to worry about losing your job. We have enough to worry about on a daily basis...worrying about reaching a specific age is he last thing we should hafta deal with

Gotta say I really enjoy all of the info on this board. Im learning alot from the different threads. Many well informed posters. Very cool. Thank You All

I was told by redshirts/upper mgmt that fedex is an airline..not a trucking company. How does this work?

That isn't correct in its entirety, but because FedEx started as an airfreight carrier they have been able to hide behind the RLA provisions when dealing with non-airfreight employees.
Because UPS started as a trucking company, covered by the NRLA and then went into airfreight, they stay under the purview of the NLRB.

Gentlemen, correct me if I'm wrong, but in all of my research, the only drivers that are covered by the RLA are Express drivers. I was always under the impression that freight and ground were covered under the NLRA, as both companies were trucking companies governed under the NLRA when FedEx acquired them. I can't find a definitive article, so I can't post anything here verifying that for you all. I wouldn't think the IBT would be making this push on our behalf at KCY and EKC, if it was going to take system wide approval to win. Although, I'd love to see this a company wide movement.

Just remember, just because you read it on the internet doesn't make it so. Bonjour....

Another thought...if there were to be a union at FedEx...the problem of pulling overweight trailers would actually be addressed. Red shirts know...as do drivers..pulling overweight trailers is illegal and against company policy. We've all seen the videos...received the education and signed the sheets. Why is it..as drivers..we are asked and at times expected to violate law and company policy??? If we are caught doing this...yes..company pays ticket BUT it still goes on our MVR & we are awarded CSA points. When it comes down to it...FedEx will say it's the drivers responsibility to ensure that all trailers pulled are safe and legal. So why risk it??? We save more money for FedEx by ensuring trailers are safe & of proper weight.

Teamsters are bleeding $. Why do ya think they want fedex so bad? Its cuz of the thousands of employees they have and the greedy unions want to get every single one of them under their thumb so that the $ will go right back to the union

Screw the unions. Screw ekc and kcy. Shut the terminals down or i recommend going to yrc or ups if you want union bs

The screwing is already going on. Why do you think this push is happening in the first place. But, at least we know where you stand. Chock him up as a no, fellas. Good grief. Do you have a real, intelligent opinion on all of this, or are you going to spew typical talking points?

If the idiots in ekc and kcy want organization so much then why dont they go to yrc or ups? Damn right im a no vote. Screw the teamsters. They can rot in hell.

I'll answer that, as I am one of them. First, I'm far from an idiot, so slow your roll, slick. Second, we have paid our dues, so to speak with this company. We have all sacrificed, and built something here. It is our RIGHT to organize if WR see fit. That's what this campaign is all about. If we get the votes, then that is our prerogative. If we don't, then I guess those of us in favor have some decisions to make. You're pretty cavalier with your opinion of us, considering you're not domiciled at either center. We have been dealing with, in our opinions, hostile management practices, the bleeding of our road boards by attrition, the massive use of rail and purchase transport, while sitting our employees at home. I could go on and on. I'll leave it at this, we aren't a bunch of malcontents. Most of us have had to do some serious soul searching making this move. Five years ago, I too, would have been a no vote. Since the economic downturn, they have been tightening the screws to their workforce, pushing for maximum efficiency, and cost cutting. There is no slowing of the process now that we are turning things around. The first quarter profits have just been posted on here this morning. It's clear what they are doing is working for the shareholders. It's also clear that it isn't in their dedicated employees best interest. I encourage you to read through the threads on this forum, and broaden your horizons just a bit. You're really coming off as wet behind the ears, and you sound like you just came out of one of FedEx's anti union propaganda video marathons. Take a deep breath, and try looking at things from someone else's perspective before you so quickly, and blindly judge others. You're making yourself appear "special".
