ODFL | Kenworth?

We have some old twins with only 6 also. They are all freightliners. Do you guys know why some are 245 and others are 275? I thought maybe it was a Detroit/Cummings thing but a little research put that to rest.
Yes,difference in engines.All numbers have meaning for sure.My 2757 has a Mercedes& the 2456 I had before had a Cat .

The motor thing isn't an issue anymore. I've driven 275's with Cummins and with Detroit motors... I don't think they're numbering anything with a 245 anymore.

Shux. But I suppose we have to understand lower fuel mileage doesn't trump lower maintenance cost. As much as many would like something to take place of the Volvo's.

Fuel Mileage. But,with big pocket's they alway's buy from the other's to push for the lowest price.I think they are happy with the Kenworth's.I wouldn't be surprised if they don't buy a few to play. They will alway's buy Volvo's.Around here the Volvo's are the only one's that they turn up to 70 mph.

I really don't know but I've had people tell me they think they can get better fuel mileage turning them up a little to compensate for the constant strain to pull at the governor. Interesting when they have their choice down around the main shop they choose the Volvo's.

They buy alot more Freightliner's&they will alway's be Freightliner.Volvo is a good truck.Everyone has there opinion on what OD need's to buy.OD is very smart in what they do for sure. One Truck Company can't stay up with the amount of truck's that OD order's every year for sure.So they have to order from other's for sure.I have alway's heard that OD set's the spec's on how they are run.One reason that we never bought any International's because International would void warranty on there's if they set them up how OD want's them.Again, that's just what I had heard back several year's ago when they were testing the 2 new International's.Plus, they required them to be serviced more than OD does.

as i understand it , first number - number of axles second number- job class ( 0 city, 1 linehaul only (they quit using this) 4 - combo linehaul and city 5 - team) third number - model of truck 2 International 4 volvo 5 and 7 freightliner 6 ford 8 mack fourth number year of truck. the reason for freightliner to have two numbers is OD buys more freightliners than anything else so you run out of numbers when you have 2006 and 2016 in service at the same time

The FedEx drivers don't seem as a group to be really impressed with their KW's if you look at their TB posts, I guess the attraction with the KW is that they're somewhat exotic to most LTL drivers If OD did start buying them they wouldn't be any better equipped than our F/L Cascadias or the Volvos we presently operate, IMO I'm pretty satisfied with my Freightliner..
I work for FedEx Frt. don't do it guys, they're rough riding junk. We are looking at more Cascadias now.

At Saia,Volvo is the clear cut favorite. 65 mph @ 1080 rpm. I would think that would be decent mpg.

I really like my Kenworth T 680 I work at Big E My Truck is a tandem it handle's and ride's very well and it's very quiet. Overall for a freight truck it is better than the International's that they have and I like the collision avoidance system in the Kenworth it doesn't seem to be as sensitive. So far very pleased with the truck.

Do you run a daycab or sleeper? I've got a buddy over at big E in a 680 sleeper, he loves it.

I have a day cab. Most of the drivers that have one likes them. Some of the KWs have Automatics but mine has a regular 10 speed. But as I said I really like mine really nice for a freight truck they have done better about equipment lately. Also the drivers that have the Volvo's like them also.

You mean to tell me that SAIA trucks run 65mph @ 1080rpm....., what is that going down hill with the clutch pedal in? What kind of fuel mileage is the, got to be near 16mpg?

They have a 12 speed automatic in them. They do run at 1080 but they wont pull a wet string from a pigs ass on a hill. They are at a disadvantage cause of the rpm when hitting a hill.
The fuel mileage isn't any better than anything else. Saia posts driver scores and fuel mileage like all companies and everyone has around 7 mpg. Same as any other truck.

I know we still have at least one straight truck in ATL... Probably could use 3 more!
