Yellow | Fed ex playing games with the rdwy/yellow customers

I did look at the stock today. It is up 47% It rebounded nicely.

Read my post again very carefully. I never stated that I picked up Fed Ex freight. I thanked Fed Ex for the extra shipments YRC drivers picked up this week.

The statement above is like the Fed Ex Flyer. It says one thing but you interpret something entirely different. Now maybe you can see why so many YRC drivers are offended by it.

i agree, i misread. i understand .

they are so set on making their numbers work, they are willing to keep losing customers daily until they do. then they canshow everyone how smart they really are.

You ain't kidding he is one ugly mo-fo. He must have his only start time, and I hope you all keep him hiden from your customers. Have a good Holiday Season.:beerchug:

Don't worry, I haven't been on a customer's dock since September, 2003. Are you another one of those non-union fellows sneaking over here to our side just to get a feel for what it is like on the better side?

$100000 and there are running legal???:hysterical:

It's actually quite common. Many FedEx drivers make that and more. As far as the union/non union bashing going on, I think it's uncalled for. My father worked for a union outfit (Churchill) for 22 years. Back in 93 he lost his job. He tried, and tried to get on with Yellow, CF, and Roadway. He only worked for yellow once a week. He could not afford that. He went to work for USF Dugan. Well, he lost his job again after 8 years. I have mixed feelings about the unions. I feel that if without the unions, I would not be paid anywhere near what I do now. Not only that, the union job my dad had for many years gave us a pretty good life as I grew up. On the other hand I think it's sad that someone that works as hard as he does was treated so poorly from his union. I believe there is a place for union and non to coexist. And to all the fella's talking about bringing bats, just remember that you are representing your union. If you want people to respect you, stop acting like fools.

Churchill went out of business like almost every other company following deregulation. Just a little side-note. We were all told following deregulation that the opportunity for many more trucking companies would be the result. First of all, hundreds of trucking companies failed. The new companies created were individuals who bought a truck and hit the highways. They're all pretty much gone by now. What's left are independents contracting out to larger concerns. Not exactly what they had in mind. The LTL industry is down to a handful. The ultimate result was one more industry controlled by a very few. This isn't the American way, but it is, unfortunately, the way of the times.

Anyway, I had friends at Churchill and lots of other carriers who are gone now. I have a fellow steward friend who came from Churchill who is now at Roadway. He has been through this with about five companies now. His terminal is closing with the merger and he will be transferring to Denver. I haven't seen him for a while, but I am sure he is thrilled. I'm kidding. But the thing I don't understand about your comment is why you blame the union for your father's situation. They didn't want deregulation and they couldn't do anything about the fact that his company went out of business.

I guess he, and I blame them because as he said, they did absolutely nothing to help him after Churchill went under. It was basically a "sorry about your bad luck" situation. The union is not what it once was. It has become too political. I think most of the workers are the only thing left to it. As I see it, if the hard workers in the union don't do something about the leadership at the top, the union will be gone very soon, and thats not good for any of us. Anyone with a sharp enough eye will see, and understand that. Capitalism is a great thing, but greed will happen and these corporations don't care about anything but the bottom line. There needs to be someone to keep them in check, otherwise they will bleed the workers dry. Thats where a good union comes in. Unfortunately they have lost their way over the past several years. On the other hand, all of those union bashers need to realize that it will be a terrible thing if the unions go away. There is a fine line that needs to be followed.
I work for FedEx and they have their problems, but for the most part they are a good solid company that pays well, but as I said before, if it were not for the unions, I would not be making anywhere near the money I do now. That being said, I personally would not sign a union card in the current environment.

deregulation is sad

If you respect your dad...go to your nearest library...if you were too young to understand what happened. Corporations do not care about you...or me...Is your dad still around? I hope so...talk to him about years past...if he's not here, my condolences, brother.

same thing

A young guy came into my terminal yesterday looking for a job. He said he was laid off from "Prime"... I said to myself" WHO?" Prime, Inc..... It's bad everywhere....

I agree with you. WE CAN NOT think like the 50's or 60's anymore in this business..... That's why you drivers have been known as "Driver acoount Specialist" for the past years... It's yer job to to help keep this account that you are PERSONALLY connected to each and evry day, and "SQUASH THOSE RUMORS" !!!!
I was at Mount Vernon, NY a few months ago...Prime Driver was looking for a job when I was walking in the door after a trip out of Cleveland. We are'nt the only ones sucking. I bet We are the only ones that will come out of it...If we are cooking the book,,,the book cookers must be awful dumb!! I do believe some other companies are doing some cooking! I got called out on this statement before...and I'll stand by it just like before!!

Keep it generic like this and I'll back you duece. I have degree in acctg and corporate experience. The adage about asking an Accountant how much 2 plus 2 is, with the reply what do you want it to be, is very true.

I love hearing "CB wisdom". You're kidding yourself if you think solevent companies aren't gunning for YRC. We're coming and we're coming hard. I've worked for two, non-union carriers, one stronger then the other but both very strong carriers and I know for a fact that by the end of this week, we're going to know what we need to do and say to get every bit of business we can from YRC. Some of you I've read have talked about other carriers being picky about what they pick up. Well NO *'*** SH#*!!!! We don't want YRC trash or anybody elses. How do you think claims ratios work exactly??? How do you think we pay for your trucks and the coffee machine you like to stand around??? Yeah....I know...everybody thinks their company must be doing well because their trailers are full. No; what we want is profile freight. I'll tell you the objective and you can go back to your drivers meetings with this info. We're going to pick you of your profile freight, leave you the bones and wrestle you into discounting the ever loving sh** out of the crap freight because it's all you got left. I'm sorry boys...the games chess not checkers. Our job as sales people isn't harmony and peace and this brotherly trucker love crap. My only purpose every morning is to get out on the street by 7:30 and figure out how I'm going to help my company shut someone down. THAT'S IT. Now I'm sorry to here YRC drivers talking about their absent sales people....but that's the game folks. If you've got a salesmen sitting on his/her a$$ all day then I suggest you find other work. Plain and simple folks...because what's going to happen is driver layoffs. One of the first things I do with a new hire is a ride along and I talk to him about what it is I do exactly. I tell him/her to think of some questions for me and we'll review them. If you can't talk straight to your sales people I suggest you spend a little less time in this chat room and a little more time looking for a carrier that knows what they are doing. My terminal has 13.4% market share and we've been open 11 months. It ain't pretty but it's true. As a salesmen I carry the lively hood of you and everyone in your family out on the road with me everyday. When Dave Miller CEO at Con-Way said his expectation was the Account Executive would be with the terminal manager to explain to a driver(s) of their layoff...he freaking meant it!!! I'm telling you now....inactive salespeople + terminal management allowing it = a really really bad day for you. Trust me.

Now all we will have to do is hire you and we will be back on top in no time at all. My hat is off to you. Anyone that can type like that while patting themselves on the back gets my vote! Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
