Your friend could ask for the ARC to look it over. I can't remember what it stands for exactly, but it's basically the Saia appeals process. Saia's position would be that he should have called the number on the badge or central. But at the time, your buddy was probably distraught and maybe wasn't thinking clearly. Either way, that's a pretty lame excuse to fire someone.

Without hearing the whole story it would be hard to say what's lame and what's not. Most of the time there is always something left out in things like this. You of all people should know that.

Hey, the guy was looking for options and I provided one. I'm going by the assumption he wants to keep his job at Saia. If that isn't the case, I am hiring.

Both of you could be correct. All I know his superior (s) did not provide the calling logs from the person fired to the board.Calling logs from fired employee's phone.I cannot imagine the board not letting the fired person speak of what happened

Tell him to contact Danny at GNC. He did about $20000.00 worth of damage to a truck while backing to the dock and kept his job. No write-up. No home time without pay. And stepped into a brand new truck afterwards.

WHO CAN WE PASS ???? The only thing I'm concerned with passing are " MILE MARKERS". Because if you think about it, each one in the region you're thinking about going into represents 64 cents... That's 64 cents per minute or roughly $41.00 and hour, (under normal circumstances) that's if you can resist the temptation to stop and flirt with those fat girls at the T/A, and keep mashing that motor driver.

Ok here's what happened to my friend. He had just got back to his Terminal.Pulled up to the fuel pumps or whatever exit procedures you all do.He had an automatic transmission freightliner. He place the gear into reverse and before the truck went into reverse it suddenly lunged forward and it struck something at the pump.Causing minimal damage to the grill and minimal damage to the bumper
So as you all know that alot people are on pins n needles about their employment with Saia.He called his dispatchers and they put him on hold for a while.I guess all this was done by the computer in yall trucks? But it was the end of his shift and technically he was off duty when this happened. He reported the incident and went home. That following Monday Saia fired him pending a committee meeting.Appearantly my friend is a good Driver and has never been late with his loads.Which appearantly that's a fantastic fete within itself. Many of his managers praised him and backed him but consequently one of the main CEOs showed up didn't hear any of the evidence nor considered the praises from that driver's mgrs.and made the determination of upholding the termination.Just that cold hearted. So yes I think he needs to file an appeal.Who was this Danny guy at gnc that caused 20000.00 of damages and kept his job with no time off?

I think your buddy is screwed. If one of the big wigs stepped in and overruled everyone else, then your buddy was the sacrifice to make an example to everyone else. My advice is for him to move on. Pretty unlikely they will overturn based on the facts given. Bad deal, and unfortunately Saia has built quite a reputation for this type of thing.

I couldn't tell you how many times the same truck will pass me every night between Greenville sc and Atlanta it's only a 140 mile stretch of road but it has many truck stops and many fat girls lol. On top of that he's usually on the cb telling that slow a$$ freight hauler to get out of the way that he has places to be but guess who gets to Atlanta first lol. Me and my friends tell them that we are 64 cents holding up 34 cents that really gets under their skin lol

For it to happen on Sun and your buddy to be fired on Mon, there may be a little bit more to the story than he's telling you.

I've never seen anyone get fired on the day after an accident here they usually draw it out a week or two and try to starve you out until you just quit and get another job that's kinda dirty but that's the way it is here. Saia has been sued so many times by people who were wrongly fired that it's gotta be pretty much a cut and dried no questions event before they will fire you on the spot.

a new freightliner? Makes you wonder what showed up on the cameras, particularly the inward facing one?

Not saying it happened but if he forgot to set the brake at the fuel island that would most certainly get you fired without any warning. It had to be pretty serious for the review process to be overruled by upper management.

Last names are not allowed in here but there is only on. Danny H is all I can offer. This was several years ago and he is still working.

Where I'm at, if those guys forgot to set the brakes in a freightliner it usually make a heck of a lot of noise. Buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh. Is all we here all night long.

I drive an automatic freightliner for xpo. Respectfully, they do not jump in and out of gear. They hiss and fart while they shift from forward to neutral to reverse. Something is not making sense.

For some reason I was thinking it was a new 17 Volvo ... You are correct the horn goes crazy in the Freightliners so I'm not sure what in the hell happened. Something isn't being disclosed. This just doesn't make any sense.

Unless the manager is classifying the event as a "roll away", in which case that may be enough for termination. But, I agree with the rest of you: there is more to this story.

Kinda odd how they didn't suspend him though, rather than terminate.
