TForce | parcel deliveries

You know I've posted this before, but its still sending me up the wall.
We are now into our 4th month from the launch date.
Our customers are still way clueless that we have nothing to do with UPS parcel.

I called this guy before leaving the terminal I had 2 skids of electrical supplies at over 1000 lbs.
The address was a street with only houses on it.
I asked him if he wanted his stuff to be delivered to his house?

He says well yes.

It wasn't only 5 miles out,so I stagged both skids on the tail.
I pull up in front of the house, walk to the front door, and ring the bell.

In the mean time the man from the house next door is taking pictures of me,and my big rig.

The customers wife comes out going totaly ballistic on me saying this delivery was supposed to be delivered by UPS.

I'm standing right in front of her,UPS brand on my cap,and shirt also a sign on my tractor door, and shes flipping out on me.

She calls her hubby, and hands me the phone.
He says can you deliver this shippment to his job site?
I ask where?
He tells me a town thats about 25 miles to the east of where I was.
I said thats why I called you from the terminal.
He says oh well you said it was coming UPS.
I said I told you UPS heavy Freight division.

Than he says put it in the garage.
I called the TM he said as long as your there just get it over with.

42 boxes,4 boxes a trip on my hand cart.

Needless to say it took awhile.

The very next stop was a store I had a skid with (2) 4x8 sheets of fibber board.

He said just bring it in the front door.

I said I need help, they weigh over 100 lbs each.

He says my regular UPS guy always brings everything in by himself.

I'm telling you doesn't he see the difference in my uniform, and a tractor with a 48 foot trailer compared to his guy,and his little package van?

I said give me help,or it goes back to the terminal and you can figure out some other way to get it here.

I got help.

But thats just 2 of many horror stories I've been through on a daily basis since we became UPS Freight drivers.

Calling all UPS sales people if any of you are on this truckingboard.
Help these customers to get a clue that we don't have anything to do with the parcel division.
We are HEAVY,HEAVY FREIGHT,not package drivers.

These are good reason"s to be Teamster's !!!!!!

So Accelerator why would being a Teamster make..

a difference in why the customers can't get used to the heavy freight division of UPS?

wassesname I posted with a dictionary next to my computer.

I can look words up.
But the meaning of your letters your going to have to spell it out in real words for me.

I'm just a truckdriver not an english teacher.

I learned after the first few days that trying to explain to every single customer that we were UPS freight was a waste of time. So now I go in and say "Overnite" to cut the BS. It works every time.

Yes your right ltl, that may be better.

I had a pickup at a customer that only ships once in awhile with Overnite.
I walked to the shipping office,my rig wasn't in view of this office.
I asked the guy if he had anything for UPS freight?
Now he sees my uniform is different
but I guess he just took a quick look at the UPS brand on my cap, than looked away?

He says no,we don't use UPS who called you in here?

Than I said no we'er the heavy freight division of UPS.
It was late, and he wanted to get going, also it was Friday.

He started getting really angry, and loudly said no we don't use UPS!

Heres the best part.
He says the only pickup I have left,is for Overnite.

Thats when I said well Overnite closed their books on April 30th,and reopened UPS Freight midnight of May 1st.

So the guy cooled down ,and pointed me to one box that was almost 200 lbs.
I got my hand cart signed the bill, told the guy to have a great weekend, than took off.

This is the one thing I never thought of when we were rebranded?

Won't people get really confused if we say were Overnite, with UPS Freight clothing?

Oh what the hey I'll give it a try this week.

I find most customers aren't really that observant any way.

The fact that your TH or Dispatcher is telling you to go into someone elses home without them being there is a first.
# 2. Why should I have to breakdown someone elses property pass the end of the truck?
#3 I can understand customer assistance and I have no problem with this but where do we draw the line?.
#4 A person should have the right to refuse to do things with out retaliation within realistic terms.

For example.

I do not believe I should be breaking thing's down into someone gararge when they are not there.
I do not believe when my 8 hours or 9 in our case is up I should have the rite to refuse or accept to work longer hours.
I do not believe a TM should freely volunteer me for anything I do not choose in fear of loosing my job.

Without consistency there is mayhem and that is exactly what we have at "O" or UPSF, wichever you prefer.

Just go in and tell them that you are broke down and that you need to use their phone. They will then know who you are.

Yes!!!! They mite even ask if all of my pickup's have been made, and if I deliver my freight intact. Just incase They think I have mislead them.

I took ltl's advice and ask for pickups for UPS Freight..

formaly Overnite.
Most look puzzeled so than I say UPS bought Overnite.
They say oh thats why you have a UPS uniform, well why don't they paint your tractor, and trailer, than we would know.

Than I say their working on it,its going to take them over three years,to paint all of Overnites equipment.

No matter how you slice it.
Eithere saying your their for a Overnite pickup, with a UPS Freight uniform, and Overnite equipment.
It seems I've got to tell them the whole UPS/Overnite buy out story for them to be happy giving me the pickup.

I guess its something I'll have to put up with running it by them the frist time, whoever I see that doesn't know whats going on with our company?
The next time I go in,they just ask me well when are they going to paint your truck?

These shipping people have no life at their companies if they don't rib the drivers they see about something.

Maybe when we are standing in front of them with our uniforms, also the equipment is rebranded everyone will be ok with that?

Gotta go to work now,see ya all later!

I use UPS for all my shipments in our office. I am sure that anyone with an account with UPS received notice that Overnite is UPS Freight. We received an magazine (if that is what you want to call it) called RoundUPS. It has an articel called "Introducing UPS Freight". Maybe higher ups got the information and did not pass it along to the other employees of the change.

And there is sure a lot of that no doubt.:shades:

Its a sad thing sometimes?

I work out of one of the smaller terminals in our company.
but even though we are small we have communication breakdowns between the shift changes.
The out bound dispatcher leaves notes for the TM in the morning, about his shift.
the next day my TM seems clueless?

Theres a few hours time gap between the close of the outbound, and the start of the inbound.

Everything has to be left on little pieces of paper in my TM's message box.

I tell you what its really something when such a small operation as we have has such a total lack of communication?

I've been working here for 20 years,my TM is I think around the 8th one we've had,and theres little change.

But than again its all a part of the trucking game.

Even with our communication break down we manage to get what we have to do, done.

Like anything, its not how you start its where you finish that counts the most.

Pull that line haul fgt, I'd rather see you get it than Land Span, a FedX company. We're all ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY now. And I'll keep the little 2lb.ers that you cant haul.
Landspan is not a FedEx company! We only bought the assets of watkins motor lines not their other transportation companies

Do I ask the sales dept.for toy trucks?

Seems to me that before the launce date.
Sales at my terminal said that they'd have UPS freight stuff to hand out.
But so far all I've seen was a few gray, and brown ball point pens, with a very short supply of ink.

These pens went fast.
I know the customers that are on my route got their fair share.
But once they were gone, the first week of the launch.
We have yet to have anyother UPS Freight branded hand outs.

although I shouldn't be surprised we're still working for the same cheap old Overnite.

Only since May 1st, they have a different color combo, and are renamed UPS Freight.

I tryed to get sales to give me Overnite pens, cups, and caps in the past for customers that helped me unload my deliveries, put their pickup on so I wouldn't have to keep working around their skids, than reload the deliveries they took off.

That was not only a great help for me but also very cost effective for Overnite.
But to try,and reward them with Overnite brand stuff from sales?
Good luck.
Once in a great while after pestering my salesman for a few months he would finaly give me something to get me off his back.

I gave up going that route.

I than went to the Overnite on-line store and purchase that stuff myself.

Well thats enough of my whinning.
Where do I purchase the UPS Freight toy trucks wassesname?
