Yellow | You're all okay after all

Central States

Mr. Larry R. ........

I was a Teamster for 9 years and when the company went
out of business I went down to the hall to find a job. I'll tell
you this my TEAMSTER BROTHERS could give a damn , there
were so many drivers out of work at that time they were
stepping on each other for the few jobs posted. I went to
Holland and Roadway on my own. I ran a load out east for a
friend and came back home to find that they both wanted me
to come in as soon as I hit town. I went to both of them and
neither would promise how long you would be a casual or if
you would even get on, but they both wanted me. I went to AF
which is FXFE now and the guy asked me what it would take
for me to come there ......
I told him the west most route furthest from the city and a new
tractor. It took 2 years for the truck to come and I got the route.
I am still there today remembering how well the TEAMSTERS
were looking out for me and my family.
Along with that said I still talk to my TEAMSTER BROTHERS that
did go to Holland and Roadway and few of them are happy with
the whole YRC thing and many of them said that they wish they
would of came with Smoke to AF/FXFE now.

Did I make the right choice for my family ? I'll tell you this ,
I'll think long and hard again before I sign the card again my
X-TEAMSTER BROTHER. So go ahead and bash us , I'm sure that
will make more of the FXF guys want to be just like you.

Deregulation was the cause of all the job loss, not the Teamsters. There were only so many jobs available and you didn't get one. Why you didn't eludes me. You seem like the kind of person the company would have gobbled up. You also seem like one of the ex-Teamsters who hold the union responsible for not holding your hand and taking care of you before anyone else. I know I'm gonna' get booted off of here by you some day. You've been on my case since I joined. I'll leave you and gtrdone alone, that's company I don't want to keep. I'm a Teamster and proud of it. I'll just leave it at that.

By the way, I'm from Yellow so I have my biases. I can understand how Roadway and Holland employees feel. I would have hated to have been purchased by them. But that's water under the bridge, and I think their jobs are going to be more secure with the new contract. And I don't believe any of this would have happened if the mergers hadn't have happened. They would all be separate and weak. Now they are joined and stronger. Because of this, the management team and the "despicable" union came together and hammered out an agreement to compete on a level playing field with FedEx. I happened to be visiting my old terminal yesterday for the first time in months, and saw my old boss. We chatted and he is ecstatic with this new contract. He thinks we are going to kick some a$$. I think he is right, and then my brothers at Roadway and Holland will feel different. And either way they are my brothers. And I hope some day your fellow employees are too. GO TEAMSTERS.

I have read and reread Larry Retireds' posts and have seen nothing I would consider "bashing". They would be more accurately described as promotional, as he does an excellent job promoting the benefits of membership in the IBT.

As to your individual situation, it sounds like a simple case of too many guys and not enough jobs, I've no doubt the hall would have placed everyone if they could, after all, they just want dues, right? :rolleyes1:

Your friends that are not satisfied at yrc, I can relate to, heck I'm not happy with a lot of things management does , but I'll not blame the union for that. The union cant tell them how to run their business. They can only address things within the realm of the contract.

Did you make the right choice? Only you can answer that.

There you are dead f-ing wrong pal.
I'll leave it at that before I go off.
NO ONE HOLDS SMOKE'S HAND .

Ah, now you've done it; I'm going off topic!

When I was just a pup, on the way to school, the local barney fife pulled me over for squealing tires on my old Chevy. After strutting around with his chest out like he had singlehandedly captured the James Gang, he told me
"You're in big trouble , kid. I'd give you a ticket if I hadnt left my ticket book at home." :biglaugh:

What I like about this post is, it is actually quite positive.
SMOKESTACK found himself in a negitive situation and he corrected it.

Yeppers, but I bet the A/C in his house got a good workout!!!

It would probably be best if I stayed out of this at this point. But then I don't like doing what is best. Anyway, v, please explain your last two post so I can still feel I'm part of the conversation. I don't get either one. :duh:

Hey vwaggs, check out the picture of the Arkansas girl that there posting on the Con-Way forum.

The first was just a parting shot at X475. We are both going different places in the COO and won't have the common issues to debate so much in common anymore.

The second was in response to mud giving Smoke an Attaboy. Smoke seems to have a "Kill them all, let god sort it out" mentality about some things. I imagine he was "Smoke'n" pretty good, there for a sec, earlier in your discussion. The idea of Mud coming up and giving him a pat on the head like a good little boy was to funny for me to keep my yap shut.
