Like the commercial says..."Chew on this." With all the complaining/crying:ranting2: that i read on here, I'm surprised that any of you cry babies still work here. But you know what...5 years from now the same complaining/crying drivers will still be here. And those same people will still be complaining/crying about the same things. These people are never happy, not with their home life and not with their work life. Do you REALLY feel that you have it so bad? Have you not seen the news, read the local or national news papers, looked at the stock market? Have you ever done true research on the job market. Please allow me to enlighten you complaining/crying people for just a moment. Did you know that as a Conway Driver, you make more money than the national average(Based on the CCX Pay)?? Thats right ladies and gentlmen...according to the national average, we make $11,300.00 more. Did you know that not only from a monetary standpoint do we do better than most, but we also have a benefits package to boot. There's not a day that goes by that I don't read somewhere that companys, city workers, teachers, county workers, elected officials are having their pay cut, their benefits cut back and in some cases cut off. Have you people seen all the companies that are closing the doors? Closing the doors and refusing to pay any retirement benefits to it's employees and sometimes losing their employees retirement. You think it's bad here...try going to work for someone else. Thats right, go on, the door will be open on your way out, just like it was open when you came in. And when you do leave, and you truely see whats out there or lack there of, maybe then you will have a deeper appreciation for what you have or had at Conway. Conway Freight is a great place to work, filled with (For the most part) good quality drivers, managers and people who really care. And guess what? As a Conway Freight Driver, you make more money and have better benefits than a person with a Bachelors degree 5 years out of school. But I guess no matter what I say, or point out, your rebuttals will be of some crying/complaining issues that pertains to just the individual speaking, like "I hate my uniform!" or "They made me tuck in my shirt!". So go on and quit, look for employment else where, I will move up another spot, I won't have to listen to you cry, and we all will be better off. A negative attitude spreads like cancer, something we all want to avoid and not surround ourselves with.

My grandfather had a sign that used to hang over his workshop when I was about so tall, and I never forgot it, or at least I remember it when I am getting ready to spew to the world about my problems:

"I had no shoes and complained, then I met a man who had no feet."

Food for thought....

My Father told me the same thing many moons ago.

I remember being promised a pension at orientation, I guess we haven't given that up.

I would agree in part with your rant Lost Cause, however there are things that have occurred here that do give legit grounds for complaint. It is, in part, the manner in which this company is following after the examples set within the rest of the corporate world. Raises that don't keep pace with inflation while corporate CEOs are giving themselves multi-million dollar bonuses. This while the working man loses benefits, such as has occurred here at Conway since I hired, it's about the "over-all/complete" compensation package. Though it is true, we have it better than many, one shouldn't look away from the reality of current socioeconomic trends simply because, for the present time, things appear well for ones self. It's only a matter of time before the more devastating loses filters down to us. It's all about labor costs and corporate profits, that's part of the reason the border hasn't been secured..."they" want cheap labor. If they could lower our wages, without fear of losing a large portion of their work force, they'd do so tomorrow. We need to look around at what's happening in this economic environment and realize what is happening in America with the reductions in the middle-class, there is a war taking place if you haven't realized it. People should be concerned, not with the trivial things perhaps, but looking at the big picture of WHY this is occurring and WHAT, if anything, can be done about it. Don't get me wrong, I think the wise thing to do in this economic environment it to work at keeping the company you work for viable but, while you are praising the great works of your employer, have you noticed the water in that pan you're setting in is getting warmer?

I think the world's water is getting warmer, without a doubt. I feel it every day, but very little of it is being heated by Con-way. We are a company trying to do the best we can during what might be the toughest economic conditions since the great depression, in an industry that can only be accurately described as "cut-throat". You would not believe the crap some of our competitors are pulling out there to secure our business, it's almost unethical, if not just plain stupid.
I was speaking to my 93 year old grandmother the other day, who has an incredible memory for detail, and I asked her how what we are going through right now compares to the depression, and she simply replied, "the only thing different is we are not rationing food yet." And she said that the job losses we are suffering right now in the middle class are better hidden by a much larger population, but she said it was very similar. Kind of sobering.
The war just plain sucks. Typical Bush family operation: we know how to get in to one, but have no idea how to finish up and get out. And you and I are the ones paying for it, and our troops families needlessly going through what they have to endure. Strap it on for the fight. We all got to do our bit to hang in there.

I'm going to just jump in on the war thing.Do you remember a little thing called 9/11, the USS COLE , The world trade centers first hit, the many attack on American targets all over the world. Now after all that I just said should we fight or throw up the flag. We did nothing in the 1990's and paid for with blood. So I'm looking to you for the answer? Fight or run and hide. For me I say fight and take out every pin head that would do us harm. I believe that so strongly that I'm going over in a month. If you don't believe me just call Dave M and ask him or call XMD.

I wish you nothing but the best and godspeed...Your statement about fighting and taking out every pinhead is right on, and if they allowed me, I would go along side you, but I am retired 28 years ago from the army. The point I think you and I are making is the same. We need to be done with it already. We took 3 weeks to run over a half million troop army there, and have spent the next 5+ years running around chasing after guys in their pajamas and bombs strapped to their behinds. The logic doesn't fly. Time to finish the job and come home. Too many good men and women already gone. Either we are committed to complete the mission or risk another Vietnam, which is already being mentioned in many circles. Our troops deserve better than this clueless idiot in the white house. They deserve a commander with a plan and a timeline, not one who is only concerned with his own personal agenda. Remember the WMDs we went there for, and never located.?? We took out someone who needed it, now get to Pakistan and dig the real enemy out of a cave and be done with it.

Boxboss...

Help me understand, "plan and a timeline".. Am I to take it that we should publish our intentions, tell them what we are going to do, let them know when we will arrive and, promise them we will be out on a certain date. If I'm the bad guy, I love you. Retired 28 years. I'm sure you remember the rules, puff-puff, pass. You have to share with the rest of us. I cannot get to your logic without assistance...

We took out a bad man... We made another run for the hills (along with his minions). We haven't been attacked on our soil since the brutal events of 9-11. I wonder of you are one of those who think "Change" will fix everything.

RSD-
I think I ranted a little too heavily today (sensitive topic in my house), hearing some of the troops that are home from proud service say that nobody is being told what the direction is over there and nobody seems to understand the mission anymore (yes, yes, Liberation, etc., I know, all the politically fancy terms) is concerning to me and others. This isn't about "The Change", as you put it, frankly I could care less about either one of these individuals. All politicians are self serving and you always wind up choosing the lesser of 2 evils. What irks me is this guy is getting ready to ride off in the sunset, leaving our troops behind because he doesn't have a plan to end it. You said it yourself, we toppled a dictator (that was fun to watch) and chased the ophan (even his own parents won't claim him) into the hills, so what are we doing..??? Eliminate what remains of the "bad guy" and get gone. These people have been fighting for thousands of years, we aren't going to change that. Clean it up and come home. Be here to protect our soil.

I should have been more clear in my posting. Operation Iraqi Liberty=O.I.L.
There is much more to these matters than the average American has been told. This is a very touchy subject because so many have strong feelings concerning the, "war" and events leading to the invasion, and rightfully so. When they hear things that may counter what they've been told by their government it can be hard to accept. But when one researches the capabilities of the US military it becomes very difficult to believe that any man could evade them for any length of time. As for the only two presidential candidates we're allowed to hear of. They are flip sides of the same coin, one will move us toward Marxism the other toward Socialism/Communism, and the ideologies are not that far apart.

Maybe Ralph Nader is the guy. Worse case scenario, you would probably get some great discounts on consumer goods and services. Nationwide!! Not sure how he would handle the troops, though... He's going to be ticked when he sees what the military spends for a toilet seat.

Kinda back to the original subject but if the government keeps the borders open, lets in the 'cheap' labor that work for next to nothing and then go apply for goverment assistance which will then cause the middle man that is making all of the money for taxes lose his job, then where with the rich corporation be? Good wages might raise the cost of living but it makes the middle man able to afford to stay off of government assistance. And able to buy what the corporations make to sell.

Sounds like the government and corporations are cutting their own throats in the long run.

Also sounds like every other great civilization that became too "civilized" and fell to it's knees. The top of the money pyramid toppled over because the foundation crumbled. We are too busy with "rights" i.e. commercials removed because they might offend someone, taking care of the illegals because they are poor and pitiful. Meanwhile a man/woman that has worked hard all of their lives, paid in taxes and has never drawn a dime from the government retires on his/her $600 a month and goverment makes life he** on him/her for asking for a few food stamps. Honest to goodness truth: a man I knew was getting $600 a month and $40 in food stamps. He got a boost of $5 a month in food stamps so they cut $10 from his check!!

Ok, I'm down off my soapbox. For now.
