FedEx Freight | Layoffs?

If people top of the board would take a day off and let others run , we may get by without seeing any . Time are hard and getting harder , button down the hatches and get ready for a rough ride .

i agree 10000000% but the only problem is is that they are greedy as hell and don't give a crap about a person under them.....

Alot of guys at our terminal have been taking days off for what seems like months...there's a good many consistantly taking days off.....some do it for unknown reasons, some "ole' reliables" do it to help the drivers that are starving. But there are far more that never take a day off for nothing. Been that way for many years. You re-learn real quick that most are in this for one reason only (which is ok...ultimately we're all the same..that's life) but it sure is nice to see some that actually give a crap about someone else and take action (instead of just talking about it) ...however small it may be. I've had a few moments (and sure to have more) where I've imagined myself (and family) in these guys shoes...to really see all that I have to lose. I won't have any tolerance for some of the guys I've been listening to boo-hoo for the last few months.....that "horse squeeze" is over.

TUL loosing 3 city, 3 Road, and 2 full time dock people, this is fact confirmed today, rumor of possible more lay offs to follow.

couldn't they have waited till after the holidays! I don't suppose this is public? I talked to an express driver today at one of my stops and his jaw dropped when I told him of the layoffs,he has been with express for almost 20 years and had never heard of any layoffs in the fed ex system...

so you are saying our #1 company seniority driver who is next to last on the road board should be the first to go because he chose to get his kids grown before coming to the road?

I don't think so driver:chairshot:

This is not taking 1 side or the other but here at Nat'l I was told by the big l/h boss that we lay off by company senority, so the #1 guy on our road board would go b-4 I would even though I am under him on the bid board......Of course I don't no if ya'll are the same

If you have got company seniority then I don't care what number they are on the "right place at the right time board". You will just have to move up to #1 I guess:clap:

I think eventually that there will be a whole lot of "dock drivers" and not too many actual "dockworkers".At my terminal the dockworkers were encouraged to get their cdl's a few months ago when Mike Moss came to visit,he then stated"It made me sick to my stomach to take the benefits away from dockworkers".then today they let 5 dockworkers go and replaced them with the newest drivers on the roster.see a trend, from what I understand all of conways dock has a cdl.we will see what happens in the coming months when it gets even slower.

As of a couple years ago, Conway's dock workers were all Cdl qualified up in kent... i only know this because i started in their driver training program... needless to say i quit after i was on the dock a couple days because of the dock manager... Won't go into that...

I just got on out here in the west before the put up the hiring freeze... so i'll see how it pans out... I'm hoping things go my way... or i'll have to do some :butt kiss: at my last job to get back there...

Everything has to be looked at from a business stand point , it's a hard thing to do , but if a business is going to survive this BAD economic down turn we must start somewhere to save the business we operate . The transportation industry always take a dive when the economy goes south . Just remember buying "Made In China" does'nt help . Good Luck to All that is affected by this and hope all get's back soon .

.

A friend any I were discussing this very thing. We see them getting rid of part time dockworkers, and filling the dock out with the newer drivers. Guess we were right. There is an Alaska forwarding company here where all their dockworkers are drivers. I can't decide if the loads would be better because drivers are loading them or worse because they are pissed off. The continued "rookie" loading mistakes I see on a daily basis are getting pretty funny.

We are "dead" here. If we didn't have our Target account, we would probably have about 10 fewer drivers.

Our SCM is in Missouri or some such place for "training". Christmas came early to our SC!!

Take a full time dock worker spot?? We have 8 full time dockworkers that don't even get close to forty hours because of all the part time workers..

I ended up getting the call from HR last night. Don't need part timers for a while. Could be one month, could be three. I don't have to call about working until I hear from HR. I use to be full time. They lied to me. No one will lose there job, but I did two and a half months after I went back after a three month lay off. They didn't even offer me part time first, just told me my position has been eliminated 30 minutes before my shift started. Yet part timers were still working. Obviously not the case this time around. I thought I'd be working with the full time guys missing like they did to me last year. I went back part time in the evening so my husband could go back to work on days after his lay off because I could work less hours for the same money I was making through a temp service after I got the FedEx boot! No one was hiring. Now it's even worse trying to find a job. Got an email from a friend telling me he is getting laid off as of January 1st. Something has to happen with this economy!
