FedEx Freight | Chicago Heights, IL has date with the ballot box

The vast majority of law enforcement officers are not Teamsters.

Raleigh, NC, has a police force who are represented by the Teamsters local 391. And skippy I never said the vast majority , but law enforcement officers are overwhelmingly represented by a union, especially in large metro area's . Maybe your neo con brain will not understand, but most intelligent people prefer to work under contract, including the CEO of Walmart.

You said "many". I was just giving some perspective to many.

Yes, LEO's are overwhelmingly represented by a union, and overwhelmingly NOT the teamsters.

It's not the fact that folks work under contract that I object to, it's the terms of said contracts. Likely, just as though you object to the contracts of many CEO's.

As to the NEO CON brain comment----you say that like it is an insult. You want to insult me? Call me an Obama supporter, a fiscal liberal, a socialist, a communist or a Teamster.

And now the fighting starts knew that would happen sooner than later "nuff said watching the rain fall

I hate to burst your bubble but it's illegal for any govt employee, including law enforcement, to be represented by a union in the state of NC.

ARTICLE 12.
UNITS OF GOVERNMENT AND LABOR UNIONS, TRADE UNIONS, AND LABOR ORGANIZATIONS, AND PUBLIC EMPLOYEE STRIKES

§ 95-98. Contracts between units of government and labor unions, trade unions or labor organizations concerning public employees declared to be illegal.

Any agreement, or contract, between the governing authority of any city, town, county, or other municipality, or between any agency, unit, or instrumentality thereof, or between any agency, instrumentality, or institution of the State of North Carolina, and any labor union, trade union, or labor organization, as bargaining agent for any public employees of such city, town, county or other municipality, or agency or instrumentality of government, is hereby declared to be against the public policy of the State, illegal, unlawful, void and of no effect.(Enacted 1959.)

You are the one that mentioned voting despite any fears you might have. What possible fears could they have? I mentioned a handful that might influence the YES and the NO voter. You also mentioned what is best for your profession. Are you concerned about the long term effects of your decision? Autonomous trucks will come, just as autonomous rail yards exist. What will determine how quickly they come to be common place will be completely dependent upon cost effectiveness. The more expensive the labor force the more motivation corporations will have to pursue the technology. The more money behind it, the quicker it will happen.

Having somebody else control how you run your company, getting rid of much of the flexibility, not competing on a level playing field, increased costs, decreased efficiencies, decreased share prices, all things that make the corporations uncomfortable.

Your best interests are not killing off the goose that lays the golden egg.
You mean the goose that feeds you the golden turd!!

I stand corrected, thanks. Since this law was inacted in 1959, it's possible provisions to the law have been added that I'm unaware of since there were allowed to join in 2006, before then they were just an association, just like teachers association.

Red hit it on the head, this wasn't about money, I still love how you guys think a yes voter is a brave warrior, and a no voter is a dolt incapable of independent thought. You (the Teamsters) are selling a flawed or at least perceived flawed product. First this was in CHICAGO a union strong hold. Then it took over a year to get cards signed, if you approach someone to sign a card and they do so willingly they will probably vote yes. If you have to talk them into it then they are generally doing it to get you to leave them alone. As evidenced here, I believe this was the longest organizing effort that has taken place in this campaign. I'm assuming (correct me if I'm wrong) they probably had at least 60% cards signed yet didn't even get within sniffing distance of 50% yes. Maybe a few changed because of the raise, but not that many. They never had the numbers, if it were 51 % to 49% you might be right but it wasn't. This is why they pushed card check as opposed to the secret ballot.
It was about the money. FedEx theory? Throw them a bone and they will quiet down for a bit. Conway set the tone and is a prime example. They (the petitioners) flexed a little Teamster muscle and they got a substantial raise. The education process was not complete at Chicago Heights. They will be back after the lessons are taught.

Believe what you want, the longer you're in denial the longer you will lose.

If you only knew half the story you'd be dangerous!
Under your theory, it's all about the money. I thought the pro's wanted better working conditions, better healthcare, better.....
Seems it's all about the money!

I don't drive for FedEx, I may be out of line even commenting on the FedEx forum.

We all do the same job out on the road in LTL, taking freight from point A, to point B. There should be a certain brotherhood in that fact.

What is amazing to me is that some drivers think the pay and benefits they receive in this LTL industry is from their loyalty and hard work to their non union employer.

The fact is everything the non union drivers receive in the way of their seniority at the non union freight companies, has been fought for and provided to them because of Teamster's. The existence of the Teamster's is what provides non union LTL drivers their seniority board, their bid runs, etc, etc. If the Teamster's Union should cease to exist, watch and see what happens to your pay, your seniority board, etc..

It wasn't FedEx freight, Old Dominion, Estes, etc., who out of the goodness of their heart decided seniority meant something. It was the Teamster's who hammered out those issues years ago.

Are we as truck driver's paving a better way for future drivers coming into this industry, or are we just taking care of ourselves??

Another question Fedex drivers should ask themselves, why are Fedex pilots unionized?? If Fedex takes care of their own, why would highly educated Pilots feel the need to unionize?
When the teamsters cease to exist, trucking will become a ten dollar an hour job with no bennies. Name another job that had the union taken out of it and the wages held up. I hope I am long retired when it happens. Thank you teamsters for all you have done. My dad was a teamster and we had it good. Sadly that day may come and my fellow fed ex coworkers will find out the hard way, then it will be to late.

Can't speak for YRC or ABF since their futures aren't very bright but it seems UPS will continue to be the flag bearer for the teamsters....and as long as UPS continues to turn a profit, the futures for the rest of the non-union companies will remain high.
