XPO | Simple math for us simple minded

OMG I have to stop posting for a while I'm starting to stoop to Beer Junkies level. and no its not fun!!

Your the second person that has told me not to reproduce.. you guys must be onto something. Im not going to jump out of any window anytime soon. Im not a miserable sole. Life is great!

Could've been merdock, he works up that way. The guy in the video was kinda overdoing it just a bit.

I know the star of the video, oops, excuse me... I know the a$$hole in the video. And I am aware of the project as it started over a year ago with the guys running triples through Ohio and Indiana when the Cascadias went on-line. The Detroit Diesel engineer and the driver, ah... a$$hole sellout DSR spent two days together with computers mounted in Sterlings and Cascadias on triple runs. The proof was in the results. But then again the company probably paid off the engine supplier to lie and deceive the drivers also, right?

If you knew him you would say he was himself in the video.

Typical management response...clueless.

This LTL company as all others base their success (or lack thereof) on service.

What these clowns do not want to acknowlwdge is the fact that 62 MPH in a 65 MPH zone driving a commercial vehicle zone is dangerous. That 62 MPH vehicle is a road hazard...forced to make as much time as possible forced to deal with other vehicles rated at much higher speeeds. In the hills and mountains it is even more dangerous...the 62 MPH vehicle cannot maintain the necessary speed to climb the offending grade and therefore further becomes a hazard to other vehicles occupying the same roadway.

And forget the manufacturers specifications regarding power curves and gear ratios...those tests are performed under laboratory conditions and under the most optimized environs....all done to sell their wares to prospective buyers. They are NOT real world applications.

Then there is the fatigue factor...driving at slower speeds hour after hour than those around you is very tiring and stressful and it plays on the driver. The driver is simply trying to get from point A to B...doing the best they can with whatever piece of equipment they have available.

You management types have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA of what it takes to operate a commercial vehicle in the time periods a linehaul driver must contend with on a daily basis. Fatigue and boredom exacerbated by cut back equipment extended drive times is inheritantly dangerous...

But God forbid that selfsame driver should have an accident or worse a rollover and you jackwagons are more than happy to put them to the street in favor of your new found god...the CSA.

In order to keep the government out of the corporate office and suffer the indignation of intervention you would rather destroy the career of any offending driver.

All you mangement types understand is numbers...and those numbers are generated in computers and simulations...not applicable in the real world...

For those that were around for the cutback...it was about being 'green'...being politically correct...about making the buying public believe that Con-Way was on the cuttting edge of conservation...they even got recognition from one of the most liberal idiots in Washington...a politician from Michigan no less.

So try doing the math again only this time without the calculator supplied by Chicken Little...

Rat

PS...get out of the office and ride with your 420 mile per night driver for a month...then come back here with a real knowledge of the things he/she deals with on a daily basis...then you may have some credibility.

credibility? so when did you see the video we are discussing? You just keep crawling out of the hole bringing all that old decaying crap with you. Standard-issue rodent

real knowledge and getting out of the office? There ya go again junior, thinking you're all that.

go and ride with another driver? Anybody but beerfd. I'm still a little nervous around him since the mercock thing

HaHa!! Now THAT was a sincere mistake..lol

Omg.. ok. Up the speed to 65 and you will be going 53 mph.. are you serious?? That what you want...
You want a bigger motor? Can't do it.. these folks would be asking why spend the money..why not a raise.. never make everybody happy.. only half.

I would be OK with 62 if the truck could come close to maintaining that speed uphill.

Merdock you need to watch the video again and pay close attention to the part where the tech is talking about bumping the speed up three mph,he clearly mentions tire cost.I know its probably hard for you to admit when your wrong, but watch it again and enjoy the crow.LOL
I love how you only hear what you want. You are getting paid by the mile, so why would they pay you more to run 65 mph? To run 3 mph faster you would actually save the company money because you would get there quicker and spend more time on the reship dock. 8 hours non-stop? No breaks, no lunch? You must love your job to work that hard. An 8 hour run is about a 420 mile turn. 210 each way with a more accurate average speed start to stop of about 52 mph. So try doing the math again only this time without the calculator supplied by Chicken Little.

And it was the option of installing the larger motor with more weight that would cause more tire wear on the steers.

We don't pull triples out of my barn so I don't know a whole lot about them, but I heard other drivers state that the minimum speed for triples on the Ohio Turnpike is 45mph. does anybody know if this is fact?

when Chuck is discussing the effects of a bigger engine the words are right there on the screen... increase tire wear.

Admitting your wrong is easy. Posting objective information instead of subjective cuts down on the number of wrongs.

Speaking of the taste of crow... where is Chicken Little and that piece of sky he had in his hand labeled Health Care Premiums 2012?

from the Ohio Rules;
EQUIPMENT
1. A tractor used in the operation of a Triple shall be capable of hauling 115,000 pounds at aspeed of not less than 40 miles per hour on all portions of the Turnpike. The maximum upgrades on
the Ohio Turnpike are 2% and the longest is approximately 3 miles.

When our company applied for state permits we had to show them by demonstrating our equipment would qualify.

Your right he does talk about tire wear with a bigger engine and he also associates tire wear with turning the truck up 3mph,I've watched it 3 times to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. I also heard him say that on a 2% grade the truck only ran 38mph,so does that mean Conway is in violation of the rules or do you think I heard that wrong too.

you can split all the hairs you want on any subject. Someone asked for the information on Ohio and I posted. That day, that run, those conditions missed the published requirements of Ohio by 2 mph.

If your talking about the mileage of the truck or whatever, why bring up the vaction thingy?? Why do you think they "stole" two weeks vacation from you? You still get just as many weeks as before, albeit it is given to you as the year progresses... You soud like your making up numbers like my friend Slime-bama.. hahahahaha The number one Liberal of Con-way!

Just to correct you, CON-WAY STOLE our vacation from us. We earned (quilified) our vacation the previous year, that's why I had to work 21 months before earning my 2 wks.
There w as a lawsuit in my area where another employer pulled the same boner and his employees hired an attorney and they went before an administrative law judge and the judge ordered employer to pay every employee the vacation time they had earned the year before. In essence they had to be bought out.
I wish I would have hired an attorney.

I've got a ton of vacation saved, I never missed a beat. Never noticed anything. You should've planned better, you had plenty of notice.

Merdock I love the whole Chicken Little bit. Its pretty sad when you think we should get excited because our company is not going to reduce our pay check next year,in your mind is that the new way we get a raise.

It is also stated on the permit that the trucks are set to 450 HP.
They are charging the customers 29.5% FUEL SURCHARGE and pinching all of the pennies they can to pay for the extra expense of the DEF Fluid. All by blowing more smoke up you know where and ignoring the problems and write-ups on the older equipment.
