Yellow | The merger begins

A hundred of reddaway drivers from all over
CA converge on Tracy velocity center. One dispatcher doing both in and outbound and insisting that we can't hook our own sets. = 5.5 hrs just to get put on 2 trailers. WTF is going on around here?

The pension funds are independent corporations and are not a party to the contract. Pension funds operate as insurance companies. They distribute annuity benefits in accordance with the federal ERISA act. The companies pay premiums into the funds per the union contract. There is no negotiation between funds and employers.

Just because YRC negotiated a contract lowering contributions to its members pensions does not change the funding liabilities it has to this type of multi employer plan. As others have already mentioned, Yellow would need to completely buy out of the plan as UPS did to change any of the liability. The plan does not allow for incrementally lowering of an employers liability.

True, members just don’t earn contributions credits during the 25% time frame, until the company pay the 75%(2010-2019)
