FedEx Freight | what are other ltl carriers rate of pay?

From what I've read UPSF makes a fair amount more than Fedex, do you think you are going to get a big raise and be right with them? Even if you get raises incrementally they will to its going to be hard too catch them.

I hate to brake this to you, but their job isn't to employ as many drivers as possible either.

Dear johndeere, I've never said anything like that. You're deflecting the fact that shareholders come 1st, via short term gains in cost cutting, stock buy backs etc. Long term[/B,] drivers who are taken better care of will take better care of the customer, building long term loyalty from both.

Thinking that can and has built strong companies. Here's a repeat of our founding business principals:

1.Take care of our people.
2.Take care of our customers.
3. Honor our commitments.
4. Work hard, smart, and safely—and
work together.
5. Make the most of resources.
6. Have fun.

Again, this works LONG TERM, for a service company. And success attracts investors. Not the other way around.

I get it happy employees are productive employees, business 101. But there is nothing wrong with turning profits and pleasing share holders, my retirement and your is invested and somewhat dependent on profits and pleasing shareholders. You may not have said that but a lot of people believe that's all companies exist for is to provide jobs, they don't.

There needs to be some sort of balance between both. How can FDX which is in a mature industry, this isn't GOOG folks, pay a paltry .50 % dividend while unionized companies such as UPS or UNP pay a significantly higher dividend. Dividends keep company's honest with their shareholders.

Even a $1.00 raise will still put us behind... especially factoring in the insurance. More so in January when UPS Freight goes to $27+ and our insurance goes up some more (for less).

If you get a $1 raise, look for insurance to go up.. When Estes stayed at around .50 hr and 1 cent or less a mile raises, we never seen an insurance increase...

Every non union place I've ever worked did the whole raise pay raise Healthcare premiums. I know not everyone does that but this has been my experience.

Im going to say something here for the Fedex guys. Never underestimate your value in this industry. Without the drivers, Fedex can't complete a sales contract to initiate a cash collection from customers. You guys are in such a great position to get yourselves excellent pay rates and a excellent standard of living. Don't give up on that!!!

The majority of supervisors do not have CDL's so its not like you have competition from a salaried manager to pull your freight. Within the industry everything is going up from truckload gypsie carriers to the railroads. So if they truly believe they can undercut you guys with other forms of transporting freight they really need to rethink their strategy. Everything is going up!!. The labor market is not what it was 10 years ago when you had baby boomer drivers and railroaders in their prime and were available to utilize. My generation and the millennials have shunned this type of industry and your seeing the implications. A very high demand for workers and limited supply.

Just remember this: You own the license, You have the excellent driving records, You have HAZMAT, You have Doubles/Triples, and you should be making top buck. The only way Fedex or any other trucker is going to make money down the road is by keeping drivers in the seat so you have a strong bargaining chip. College grads are a dime a dozen. Clean CDL's are becoming a precious commodity.

Can't argue with that, especially the last part! :smilie93C_peelout:

What kind of license do you need to drive a box truck? Class E?

Now that I think about it, when I rented a 20' box truck from uhaul I didn't need anything.

Difference between driving a personal vehicle or rented vehicle and driving commercially. Licenses are based on gross vehicle weight. If the vehicle can handle more weight then your license allows it goes down as driving without a license.
