JBG, do you really think the Teamsters made a public announcement of this news as propaganda? If this were the case, what do you think the fallout would be for them once the truth came out?

Also, why would UPS go out of their way to announce that they will not fight the union in an organizing attempt?

I know you don't want to see your beloved UPSF go union but it's time to face the facts that UPS HAS agreed to a card check. Why do you refuse to believe this?

Here's the direct quote from TTnews.

"Separate from the parties’ parcel-business contract, the two also agreed to a “card check” process in the union’s attempt to organize at UPS Freight, Bloomberg reported.

Under such a process, the union can gain representation by collecting signed cards from a majority of workers, avoiding a formal election, Bloomberg reported.

UPS Freight is the renamed Overnite Corp. less-than-truckload carrier that UPS acquired for $1.25 billion last August. (Click here for previous coverage.)"

This is not propaganda

This is not propaganda JBG. A statement from Gordon Mckenzie was read to us at our facility this morning. It was four pages long with a question and answer sheet.

Welcome Equalizer!! We asked if we could get a copy of the letter and was told "NO"!!!
I couldn't stop laughing.

We asked as well, but they replied with the same answer as you received. What was read to us isn't exactly what is being said in the news though.

Its all about image.UPS is a respected brand.

I'm sure The management of UPS our parent company doesn't want the union picketing their customers.
As well as all the nasty activities that the Teamster did to Overnite during the last go around 1999to 2001.
3 years of Harrasment to try to get a signed contract for 22 out of 160 terminals.

What happened to the majority rules?

Yeah right what a joke, and you say Overnite was being unfair?

Well thats all water under the bridge.

This is now,and UPS will not allow another strike by LTL,or package Teamsters to tarnish their famous brand.

You may be winning the war to organize our company now that we are under the UPS brand.
But after we join your party, you may still be in for a fight to get the contract you want.

For UPS to float all of the pensions of LTL Teamsters retirees that have been promised more money than they earned working.

Only time will tell?
You know I'll be watching!!!!!!!!

I say "hoorah" for the Teamster's
My Dad allways told me growing up, "Son, if you wanna good paying job with beni's, work for a Union company"
So, as a good son would do, I listened to my Dad, became a Teamster like him, and the rest is history.

Now yall have to realize, you sometimes have to make a stand. Sometimes they'll be losses. But if we never made a stand for fear of losses, we'ed still be under British control.

Thank GOD for the teamster's and all those brother's and sister's who came before me who fought for what I enjoy today. Thank you!

Hey Indy,
Sir I do read the paper and Central states has just announced a raise in my pension rates. I will now retire at 62 with over $3,700 per month. As I said please stick to the facts.Central states took a bath in the stock market fall of the past and made the corrections needed and is on its way to doing what it needs to continue.

You may retire with that, but what about a person just starting to get an union pension. What will they receive? They use to accrue at a 1.0+ rate and now they accrue at a 0.50 rate. Does that mean that I would get half of what you get once I get 62 or do I have to work 30 years as a Teamster to be fully funded. I only need less that 15 to retire, do I now need 45 years before I retire to get that kind of $$ at a 0.50 accrue rate?

That is great question....I think it only fair that we all get compensated for the time we have already put in.....Because to me anything less, is 10-20 years and then start again....will probably need to be based on some way that gives more to the "O" guys because their pension sounds pretty good and MC sucked....

GT,
That pension would stop whereever you are. For example if you had 20 years in at "O", then you would get credit for 20 years, but would loss credit because you did not make the 30 years at 55 years old. No retirement health care from the "O" pension either because you did not reach retirment age with that plan. You would have to start over with the Teamsters and work for at least 5 years to be vested in their plan. The question becomes, how long to I have to work to recieve retirement H&W benefits from the Teamsters? I doubt if 5 or 10 years would give me that. When I retired, I would take whatever $ from the "O" plan, with adjustments because I left the plan early before retirement age or service requirment, and whaterver 5 to 15 years with the Teamsters would get me. I'm more worried about retirement H&W.

Damn body just lets us down.....Well is there not a possibility that part of the contract could be to give us credit for some of it? Seen it here on the boards somewhere else...And I totally understand any of you guys being uptight about the pension stuff....But for me I am starting at zero either way...SOOOOO....

My question for the credit would be that is great, but who has been paying the money for me to get the credit. I might get credit, but they could not give me the same amount of $$ as they are given someone whose company paid those years. A UPS Feeder driver told me that UPS pays somewhere between $10K and $20K per year for their pension to the Teamsters. I do not know if it would be worth $50k for 5 years of pension pay at a later date.

Plus, I do not know if they (Teamsters) would even let us buy the credit years. At $50k, for 5 years, they probably would let us buy it. But if it is $100K, who could buy it? I could not buy $1k much less 50 to 100...
