I knew it,the new union is something like the old union.

I only have one co-worker over me,for all classes,dock,P & D,and road.

He's a P & D driver and has the first early start,I always start after him.

I told him a long time ago,we'er not in the union,I'll work the way I want, you work the way you want.
He didn't have a problem with it.

But I can see with my new found Teamsters affiliation I'm going to have to change my way of doing things.

Yesterday I talked to a very inteligent individual thats a P & D driver farther down the senority list.

He raised a good point.

If Leo,& Gordon could give us a small part of the vision A.S.A.P. in the form of time, and a half after 8,change a few other issues like sick days also the delay pay for road drivers, than we may not have the Teamsters knocking at our door at this time?

What do you Teamster posters think of that?
We'd have your help again in getting an increase without having to join up.

Hey it works for me.

So what you are saying is that since you have the seniority, you should be allowed to do what ever you feel like doing, regardless of whether it's legal or not.

What do I think of that? I think you should get down on your knees and thank God that the Teamsters are out there getting your standard of living for you.

Of course that is part of the problem with this country today. Too many people out there that want something for nothing. Too many people out there that are willing to let the other guy do something while they are sitting on their butts reaping the benefits. Too many people out there that as long as they get theirs, they dont care about anybody else.

And through it all, they will sing the praises of the company because they are being so well taken care of.

Go figure:duh:

we drivers at motor cargo worked 25 and 30 years with nothing but promises and a knife in the back but we are in the union and we will continue with upsfreight...what is wrong with you people their is no more overnite no body has the power to give you special treatment any more......something for nothing is what your getting nothing.

Apostolic,

In nearly 20 years, I have never heard of fines levied against a member. however, if you want to be technical, if you are not on the clock, you have no right to be on or near equipment. Let's look at this from a very simple and practical point. Say you raise the hood to check your fluids. For some reason, the hood latch slips and the hood comes down and for argument sake, breaks your arm. If you are clocked in, it becomes a worker's compensation claim. if you are not on the clock you are up the creek without a paddle, as the company can deny your claim because you were not officially at work...(off the clock). What would happen if you were doing your hook and had an accident in the yard? There are so many possibilities of things that could go wrong that would offer you no protection whatsoever if you were not on the clock.

I do all the things you do, every day as part of my routine. I also get paid for all my time involved in performing my job, (pretrips, post trips, shop time, cleaning the windows and mirrors, reworking and securing my freight, breaks and lunch). Now with a contract, if you work through your lunch, you will be paid for that time instead of giving it back to the company.
They would call you an ambulance, and have them escort you out of the yard. For good!

I think alot of employees do not want the union in because they won"t be able to do what ever they want regardless of seniority! And they know that with the teamsters seniority rules!

We needed rain in upstate N Y. Now its a flood.

We had a hard time moving our outbound loads because of flooded roads in New York, and Pa.yesterday, and today.
I desided to try your Teamster advice,so I didn't check out my tractor, warm it up or build up my air pressure,to see how my day would go?

My route trailer was only half loaded today so I figured I may be able to actualy take an official lunch break today.

My appointment deliveries came off ok,but I was sent for a pickup before coming back to do my route.
I got held up,and thats all it took to put me behind, than I had to work straight through the rest of the day to complete my route deliveries and pickups.

The way the freight runs I don't see how becoming a Teamster will change anything?

Just becoming a Teamster, won't put more time in my day to get everything done.

I feel that if I was prepared to leave the terminal as I'm used to,maybe I would of been able to fit a lunch sometime in my route.

I guess when your used to doing things the same way for a long time change is very hard.

Do they deduct your lunch anyway. If they do then it would be a cold day in August before I wouldn't take it. :wavey:

Don't ask me how they do it.they have to show a lunch..

in my daily activities,or the TM will get busted by the company auditers.

Kind of a tricky thing, all of us P.& D. drivers are reponcible for getting our routes done.
We should be able to take a lunch break, but we have a very hard time fitting it into our daily grind.

Just by taking a half hour off,we may not be able to get our stops done.

So it comes down to either get the work done,or take breaks and have unhappy customers that expected to get their freight and will have to wait for another day.

And of course a TM that will go totaly ballistic that your not making the numbers.

See how much better you road drivers have it.
Just get paid to drive.

Are you kidding me?:biglaugh:

As far as getting you lunch in. They will have to hire more people to get it done so that everyone gets their breaks and lunches as the contract says. I have been at Roadway for 10 years and If I missed a lunch it was because I chose to not because I was afraid of the TM.
