The I/B - peddle - O/B routine is standard here. Has been since like 2008.
Since no one else has said it, I'll be the smart a$$ and say it, my day is typically 24 hrs then I start a new one.
More people means more work for management. Maybe it would help if FOS level management was paid hourly. Then they wouldn't be cutting every corner to leave as soon as possible.Yeah HS...I know.That's been the model at my barn ever since I was hired on back in '94, and probably goes all the way back to '83 for dsr's since Conway came into existence...I get that. What I don't get is management's inability to put a few more pt dock guys on to help w/ I/b and o/b dock in order to reduce OT for comparatively more expensive dsr's.
I guess I've become spoiled in recent years in just doing a few hours of I/b , my peddle, and then going home. I guess it's back to the good olds days of grinding it out at the Conway salt minds as galley under rowing slaves everyday now till things improve...if that should ever happen.

End of the month , end of the quarter. Our freight may have doubled , even tripled at my terminal.I thought i would ask if other terminals are busy or slow. At my barn most drivers are getting less then 8 hours a day and some are getting worried because we are so slow for this time of year

Full dock and no where to put it or the freight that comes in from the city. Viscous circle. This is what the company needs and they can't even do it anymore.

He's saying that it's sad that many or most of our terminals are so short on drivers and/or equipment that when we get busy, we are unable to provide the service that we are supposed to. Same here. Guys are leaving and they are not able to find replacements. Makes for long days. Some don't mind, but when the long hours are forced, it gets old quick.Sounds like job security to me. So whats the contract on this freight is it economic freight which it moves when it can. We no nothing about this barn or where the freight is from or going. You make it sound like the freight is sitting there for days at a time. I don't know and I sure the one who posted doesn't know either.I was referring to the customers freight sitting on docks for days missing service. Coming up on the 2 yr mark since we were bought I hope they can figure it out soon before we loose more business.
Having more freight than you can handle is only good for short term revenue gains. If that's what their focused on to drive the stock price up than that's great "success " but if you interested in building a long term reputatable company that is substainable not so good. Con-way had a good reputation for delivering on time. Reputations are built on service that's the key to job security. More business will come when you do that. Customers don't care how big you are or how high you share prices is at the end of the they care if their freight arrives on time and undamaged.
Only time will tell which path Mr Jacobs is really perusing.

You said "Con-Way had a reputation" yes they did, the big word is HAD. Last I check my paycheck said XPO.
Back in the Conway days I have pick up 1 skid from a customer and next to it was 10 skids going to the same place that OD was getting. When I ask about it they said you, Con-Way will get it there quickly but OD won't damaged. Con way also would spend $1 to make .75 ¢ and doing that doesn't keep the doors open either.
As we all know some barn lost work while some have gained and we all know it takes time to move eq around. The poster said this has been only going for a month and might be a new account you make it sound like this has been going on since XPO bought Con-Way.
If you want an 8hr days I sure their a $14 warehouse job out their. If your a truck drive 8hrs day are rare and if you don't like it then you might what to change your career choice
